SOUTH PACIFIC wasn't eligible for Orchestrations.
i hope in the heights does their performance last for best musical at the award show.
CapnHook, South Pacific's orchestrations were written by Robert Russell Bennet in 1949. They weren't eligible to be nominated.
WOW. Definetley didn't see Cry-Baby getting noms for Best Musical and Best Book. A Catered Affair was royally snubbed IMO. In The Heights and August:OC really racked up the noms so congratulations to them. Mermaid actually did better than I thought. I thought it would get completley snubbed but they got nominations for Score and Lighting.
I wonder how the lack of nominations will affect A Catered Affair's longevity?

CRY-BABY OVER A CATERED AFFAIR?!?!?! BLASPHEMY! BLASPHEMY! BLASPHEMY!
A CATERED AFFAIR was my favorite new musical of the season and I'm very sad and disgusted to see CRY-BABY take that slot. Even sadder to see that a best score nomination went to THE LITTLE MERMAID over Bucchino's gorgeous score.
It is pretty pathetic to see Bucchino snubbed in favor of MERMAID.
I am shocked about CRY-BABY (dont get me wrong.. I wish them the best!!)
but WHERE DID WE GO WRONG guys with our predictions???? Where???
No one sees that coming????
Am I just dreaming? lol

Disappointed by Xanadu only get 4 nominations, but at least they were 4 major nominations. Please, I want Douglas Carter Beane to win for best book. I hated Passing Strange but I predicted it would receive 7 or 8 nominations and it got 7. I didn't like A Catered Affair, but I'm still surprised as others really liked it alot. Both of the shows I would have nominated for Best Musical both got nods (In The Heights & Xanadu).
So glad that Kate Fleetwood and S. Epatha Merkerson joined Deana and Amy and Eve - I want four of the five to win! (all but Eve).
Nice to see Bobby Canavale and Laurie Metcalf get nods for shows that didn't get any other nominations.
So pleased that my choices for Featured Actor & Actress in a musical both got nods (Robin DeJesus & Olga Merediz)
Strangest nomination: de'Adre Aziza. Worst nomination: Passing Strange for Best Musical!
Lots of new names, which is always exciting!
I was disapointed with A CATERED AFFAIR, CYRANO DE BERGERAC, Buchino's score...
Mary Testa, John Doyle.
But overall- I am happy... I am glad my boy-Chris Gattelli was nominated for SOUTH PACIFIC! yay!

Are there anomosity with A CATERED AFFAIR?
Best Score, Best New Musical, Best Director in a Musical... I can see snubbing Fierstein, but the show was GOOD overall!!!

I'm happy for Tom and Faith, anyway. (I haven't seen the show or heard the music yet, but I do know I like them both! ) Good luck to them.
ps. I am happy that this is now the most nominated revival of GYPSY in history.

Gypsy rocks my world
GO PATTI!
cry baby got nominated over catered affair?? if there looking for a big commercial show to bring in audiences to watch they probably would of done better nominating little mermaid. both are crap but if there awarding shows for ratings which has to be the reason it's pretty sad. the only other excuse is the tony voters just have bad taste.

well, this is a surprise haha. Very surprised about Cheyenne, A Catered Affair, and well, the Little Mermaid also. At least Chris Fitzgerald and Andrea Martin are eligible for featured actor/actress for YF

Because it's such a "small show" in terms of theatre size and basically one set, I didn't expect anything in terms of technical nods for "Xanadu." I'm happy with four, although five (for Cheyenne) or six or seven (Mary, Jackie) would have been even better.

No Cheyenne???
WTF?
Robbed, I tell you, ROBBED!

I suddenly realized that CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF was completely shut out, including James Earl Jones and more surprisingly, Anika Noni Rose!
It seems like CRY-BABY have less enemies in the nominating commitee than Mel Brook, less backlash than Disney & Harvey Fierstein.
Its how many friends or enemies -that really matters you know? then after the nominations~its a popularity contest for the Winners!
I am glad that Miss Patti got the nods, so with the rest of GYPSY. I just had few disappointments! overall- Its okay!

A Catered Affair has become exactly like LoveMusik.
Very daring in what it was trying to do, polarizing many audience members, getting the most Drama Desk Nominations of the year, and then not getting a nom for Best Musical, but nominations for it's two leading stars, and for orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick.
Coincidence???

Stew for Best Actor? God in heaven, how?
I can see nominating that horror ROCK AND ROLL for Best Play, I guess, they have to kiss Stoppard's ass wherever possible.
But Stew for Best Actor? Feh.
oh yeah, poor Cat On A Hit Tin Roof...ouch
thrilled for Les Liaisons Dangereuses

But the real outrage is SUNDAY IN THE PARK's nomination for Orchestrations. Ridiculous, that reduction to 5 musicians who sound like 2.
Jay--freakin take a breath. FRANKENSTEIN and AFFAIR blew. CRY-BABY was at least a little fun--I think their nomination is well deserved.
And Cheyenne---I love him...but best actor? REALLY? Yeah...not s'much. Same goes for Olga Merediz. I love love love IN THE HEIGHTS but I didn't buy her being an old grandma for a minute.
YAY for Kerry Butler!!!
