Heather Headley is the only name that makes both artistic and commercial sense to me.
I would love to hear Heather.
And it probably will never happen but what really haunts me is the idea of George C Wolfe directing Tonya in Gypsy. I would be back immediately. I just know she will give ever single inch of her voice and emotions in the role. I think she will find a certain darkness and go places that even Audra wasn’t able to.

It is very likely IMO that the show will start to peter off at some point, get a bump if she wins the Tony, then start to peter outagain. Unless a big star, the producers will have no reason to take a chance on losing money and either dilute whatever profits they have or lose even more.
So, if this is not a purely theoretical thread, the question should be 'are there any big stars who would want to replace Audra MacDonald when she is ready to leave Gypsy'?

The way this production has marketed itself, and the way the production has chosen to interpret the storyline with Rose passing and all that next context (which I love) only add to that impossibility. It’s more than likely not going to happen, but there are certainly some names here that could maybe hope for an LA stint or something (but I don’t see that happening).
There is hope at GDCA (Gypsy Dream Casters Anonymous).
Idina has expressed interest and I doubt it would happen, but it’s one of the few revivals I can see her tackling.
