I know it's AUDRA: GYPSY! but does anyone think we might get to see replacement casts this time? The grosses look good.
I honestly feel like Tonya would elevate the entire production but would be very surprised if it happened.

Renee Elise Goldsberry or Sheryl Lee Ralph would be wishlist names, but not realistic, I agree with the sentiment that it will probably end when Audra finishes her run

For better or worse, I feel like Sutton: Gypsy! is inevitable at some point.

That'll be the 2035 revival.

Yeah, these productions are usually built around the leading lady, so it’s likely done when Audra is. And with the timing of the production going through the end of August, having Sheryl Lee Ralph as a replacement is impossible because she has to go back to her work on Abbott Elementary.
However, if Audra needs a week or two of vacation, they could always try to bring Sheryl in for a small stint To see how she would work out, maybe for a Los Angeles production in the future
When she attached herself to this Gypsy as a producer, I thought Kerry Washington could act TF out of Rose.
Yeah, GYPSY is not a show that tends to be able to have a replacement make financial sense because its so star-centric. But if they were to extend post-Audra, top of my list would be Heather Headley, Renee Elise Goldsbury, and Annika Noni Rose, in that order.
Headley is the dream but sadly she’s said since she lives in LA and her kids are still in school she won’t do a show, now. Maybe if it’s over the summer for a couple months, though?

Harding? Count me in!
Tucker? Sure, why not?
The other one -- no thanks.

Even as I type this it sounds like a bad idea and I don't think she has the stamina to do this a few times a week let alone 8-but now I can't stop thinking about what insane choices Fantastia Barrino could make in this role. If it ever did happen, I'm not even sure this would be the right production for her.
But yes to Heather a million percent. I could see Patina eventually coming back and doing this, as well.

Gypsy needs to just go away for at least 15-20 years.
It probably will. 2008 was the last revival before this.

I am such an idiot, I didn't even think "future Mama Rose Possibilities" as in a replacement to Audra. I just assumed the production closes once she's done.
Not in this production but Michael Diamond will make an incredible Rose one day.

In this production, I'd also love to see LaChanze get a chance

Not going to be anyone. Gypsy has never had a long run. If I remember, the original production only ran 15 months. It is very likely IMO that the show will start to peter off at some point, get a bump if she wins the Tony, then start to peter out again. Unless a big star, the producers will have no reason to take a chance on losing money and either dilute whatever profits they have or lose even more.
So, if this is not a purely theoretical thread, the question should be 'are there any big stars who would want to replace Audra MacDonald when she is ready to leave Gypsy'?
I’ve been thinking of Heather since I saw Audra- would love to see it!
I've recently been thinking about Laura Bell Bundy playing Rose at some point considering she herself was a Baby June-esque child.

She would certainly work very hard and the will is there, but I am not certain the instrument is.

Heather Headley is the only name that makes both artistic and commercial sense to me.
