So i wanted Jennifer Hudson to be effie but lets be real...its not happening! Fantasia is more likely to get the role than anyone and i will be damn proud if she does! she is like a young lillias! she has the fire and thegrit in her voice to make this role her own. people are only stressed out because what they want is Jennifer and...well...jennifer cant play it in the movie. It makes me sad to say that. anyway, Fantasia is going to be incredible and so is the movie...she is going to cut beyonce apart. Who cares if it isnt a broadway actress...GET OVER IT! jennifer wasnt! so lets be real people. Fantasia has the pipes and the frit and she is the best thing we have until they find someone far superior to her. thanks.

oh and she is no macy gray! UGH! how dare you?!?!?!

You know, having to wade through all the bloody 'Wicked' and 'Rent' threads in this forum, one sometimes forgets 'Dreamgirls' is on the cards.

Yeah, there's an awful lot of Dreamgirls movie threads showing up. But it's one of my favorite subjects of the day, so I keep checking 'em!

I will say this... Anyone who plays through that gospel clip posted of Fantasia and STILL doesn't think she could play Effie ought to have their head examined.

She would NEVER be able to handle the role 8 times a week on stage.

But with studio work, I'll admit she can handle it.

But she does NOT NOT NOT have a strong voice, or proper technique, and there is NO denying that.

I know my dream is to hear a half baked Nell Carter ripoff with a 1/16th of Nell's talent ruin that role. So far I have had no problem with the casting of this movie. But this would be beyond reproach. Fantasia is worthless.

And how is her acting? There is a little bit more to the role than just singing. It was hard to tell when she was in Rent, because she was given a part that required little to no acting.

Fantasia wasnt in RENT...that was Frenchie! and we arent talking about frenchie at all. love her, but a little over it. Mister Matt, what you fail to realize is that this show was all about the voices. If it wasnt, they wouldnt have enlistend Jennifer Holliday and the original cast, and Lillias White for the live cd version. lets be real. granted ive seen lillias in the role and she was fierce as an actress. still, fantasia can be coached in the acting, and understanding her struggle already is all the trainign she needs. This show is far from being about echnique and more about talent and grit. if they wanted technique they wouldnt have cast jennifer. lets be real people. i am all for fantasia.

I agree that this musical is more about the voices than the acting - with every character except Effie.

I think it's easier to mask being a poor acting Effie on stage than it would be to do it on a big screen.

excuse the spelling, i started this at 5 am after finishing an 18 page research paper. i am still recovering from it.
I agree Patronus. But still, lets be honest, do you want to see a lousy singer or a lousy actress? i will be more offended walking out the theatre knowing they casted a lousy singer. ugh. anyway, we dont know how good the girl is as an actress. we always assume they are lousy actresses.
