Yay Erin! I'm campaigning *points to signature*. I think we all should.
Congratulations to GREY GARDENS for it's 10 TONY AWARD NOMINATIONS!
Best Musical
Best Book of a Musical: Doug Wright
Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre: Scott Frankel & Michael Korie
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical: Christine Ebersole
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical: Mary Louise Wilson
Best Direction of a Musical: Michael Greif
Best Orchestrations: Bruce Coughlin
Best Scenic Design of a Musical: Allen Moyer
Best Costume Design of a Musical: William Ivey Long
Best Lighting Design of a Musical Peter Kaczorowski
At least we know they'll at least win 1!
Munk, I'm thinking minimum 2 for the ladies, and Doug Wright for best book. (Costumes are possible, too, as are orchestrations.)

Congrats! I'm pulling for them in everything.
They don't have a chance at Orchestrations.
LOVEMUSIK will take Orchestrations.
The house we live in will win!!!!!!
Im so happy for Grey Gardens!!!!I still really would have liked to see Erin Davie get nominated.

I think that Grey Gardens can definitely win best musical. I think the only competition is Curtains

The GG site is already boasting their nominations. Good for them.
Actually, I think CURTAINS is the only show not in GREY GARDENS' way.
SPRING AWAKENING is a threat to GARDENS, and POPPINS is a huge threat to SPRING.
I would not be at all surprised to see Grey Gardens take best score even if it loses the best musical trophy to Spring Awakening. These are both great scores in their own way. If I was voting I'd give it to GG just because of the extraordinary craftsmanship.
It wouldn't be the first time we saw an ad bragging about "The Tony winning Best Music on Broadway"

I like this thread.
GREY GARDENS has a theatrical score that carries it from one moment to the next - not to mention the jarring change in styles between Acts I and II.
I think it's safe to say we'll see Christine, Mary Louise, Doug Wright and Korie and Frankel up there. I've been thinking about the Best Score category. I've been thinking about road voters way too much, but with titles like "The Bitch of Living" "Totally F*cked" and "Touch Me", they may be a tad frightened of giving the music of Spring Awakening a Tony. A tender ballad called "Another Winter in a Summer Town" seems like a song that people from Ohio and Wisconsin will find more suitable. Plus it's a lot better than Spring Awakenings banal ****.

I'd love to see GG take top prize. SPRING didn't do much for me. The GG score is far superior to me.
I'd be okay with Spring Awakening winning Best Musical if Grey Gardens got Best Score and vice versa.
But if SA gets both, I'm gonna be *pissed.*
I'm pulling for GG to get all it's nominated for, though!
jv, I wouldn't count out Spring Awakening out because of that. Remember, Avenue Q won with titles like "You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want When You're Making Love" and "The Internet Is for Porn." And that was a year they could have voted for Stephen Schwartz, who has yet to win a Tony Award.

It is a fine show.
I root for it although the "Gay Mafia" at the NY Times seems hellbent on the other show winning.
If GG only wins 2 Tonys--Lead and Support Actress--how much longer can it run?
My idea. As soon as DEUCE closes, get Angela to replace Mary Louise Wilson.
Gay Mafia????????????
Re: Avenue Q and Best Score
Good point, but Avenue Q was cute, fun Sesame Street music. Spring Awakening is hardcore rock (at least I thought it was).
You know, ignore me. I'm just trying to pretend that Korie and Frankel have the Tony 100% in the bag. They don't, though they certainly deserve to.
While I like Curtains, I believe SA will sweep the Tonys
Yeah, I really would LOVE Grey Gardens to win Best Score at the Tonys, but it seems like Spring is set on taking that award. I dont know, I prefer the music for Grey Gardens any day.
But Grey Gardens BETTER take Book.
Still leary on the Featured Actress award though...I don't know, Karen Ziemba just seems like she could steal it from Mary Louise. I'd be happy if either of them won, though.
Gay Mafia = Isherwood, Brantley, and Holden [the latter has a huge boner for Sheik]
Mary Louise Wilson has never won a Tony, despite being nominated numerous times. (Was cheated on Cabaret, IMO) Believe me, she's probably going to get it. (Yes, I know it's rare for a show to snag both leading and featured actress Tonys and between the two ladies from GG, Christine Ebersole has my vote, but Mary Louise should get a Tony for this remarkable performance.)
fflagg-great idea, but when is Mary Louise's contract up? (Christine Ebersole is in through Oct., provided they can stay open that long.)
