This is also great quote from Brantley. Almost takes away from his Bernadette rave 5 years ago.
And while Rose may be a dauntingly single-minded creature, Ms. LuPone now plays her less on one note than any actress I’ve seen.
Bring on the Tonys!
Agreed!
And bring on that Complete (and seemingly definitive) Cast Recording too!

If Benanti wins the Tony, I believe it will make her the first "Gypsy" to take home the award in Gypsy history. Congrats on the raves! It was a wonderful show!
What have reviews for Jenna Russell in "Sunday..." been like?
I saw her performance, and truly think she could steal it from Patti...
(*And yes, I also saw Patti as well, whom I ADORE, and I was bowled over by her Rose...*)
I completely and wholeheartedly agree about Benanti though - That TONY is HERS.
Jenna's reviews were positive but nothing like this.
Faith Prince is the one to worry about stealing it from Patti. But that even seems a little less likely now.
Within the safe space of this thread, the Tony is Patti's and Patti's only.
Start another thread if you want to talk about Jenna's chances.
The only way I could see Russell taking the award is if voters are divided between LuPone and Prince - let's see how Catered Affair does.
Wow, these reviews are incredible!
I saw the show at City Center, but I must say I am yearning for a chance to get to the St. James after these reviews.
Faith Prince's role in A Catered Affair is like a polar opposite of Momma Rose. Well, except for the favoring one child over another thing. It's just not flashy enough to grab the Tony committee's attention.
The Tony is Patti's.

Just curious about it - i'd personally LOVE to see Patti get it...
And now, *with these reviews*, I plan on seeing her take it!
PS - I've learned that starting a new thread on this board is never a good idea. No thanks.
Movieguy- if you want to discuss the leading actress race there was a thread devoted to that awhile back, you could search for it.
EDIT- I found it: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?boardid=1&boardname=bway&thread=952979#3406430

It's hers. The TONY is Patti's.
I don't think I've ever wanted to see a show so badly after these reviews.
By the way, when are the Tony noms announced? from Roman in Austin, Texas
May 13
BroadwayEnthusiast,
Its incredibly fantastic.
This is like reading one account of an orgasm after another. Congrats to the entire GYPSY family!!
I love Faith Prince, and she's fierce in "Catered Affair", but these reviews are just indescribable.
I'm drooling reading these reviews!! I see the show next weekend and I'm incredibly nervous simply because I'm seeing both this and SUNDAY the same day... and I think my heart just may stop...
Act4ever, I can't think of a better day of theatre. Honestly.
I know, serisouly! After that day my life will be complete. (Except the next day is my birthday... so talk about a great weekend!) haha. In all honesty though, I'm almost in tears just reading these reviews. Reviews as "rave" as these don't come out all the time...
This is thrilling! I actually got teary-eyed while reading Brantley's review. The best part is that it's not even just a love letter, but several of them: one to Patti, one to Laura, one to Boyd, one to Arthur Laurents, and one to the entire production in general.
I think it might be in the top something-or-other of his most positive and gushing reviews.
*Act4ever-
WaltSummersPI is right. You're going to have the most extraordinary day of theatre experiences. Enjoy.

"I know, serisouly! After that day my life will be complete."
Haha, well I don't know about life-completing but it is an excellent night in the theatre.

You should do dinner in between at Sardi's and tell them to put you by Merman :)
I am seeing the show this Saturday and am thrilled and excited.
Maybe not life completing... but yes, quite a day.
I can't stop reading these reviews! I just want to read them all again! Haha.
