Wow. When was the last time a revival got raves across the board like this? Unbelievable.

I was at opening (Patti's bow, getting down on the floor like that, was probably the coolest thing I've ever seen at a Broadway show). As soon as I got home I checked to see what the reviews were like. Glad to see it's getting the raves it deserves. Fantastic production, and pitch perfect cast. And, of course, Patti owns this role. She IS Mamma Rose, and, dear lord, we are so lucky to have her on Broadway. *tear*

getting down on the floor like that?
her, floor sweeping, ballerina opera diva signature patti bow?
or did she... get... down... on the floor?

First off, congrats on the magnificently well-deserved reviews!
Laura Benanti has it. She just does.
I tend to agree, but if anyone can steal it out from under her, it is Olga Merediz, who is at a later point in her Broadway career, having replaced in production after production, finally creating a role from scratch in a fresh, new musical that will probably win the big prize. Benanti is just starting her career. But I would be beyond thrilled to see either of them win.
Speaking of the bows, who bows right before Patti? Boyd or Laura?
Princeton, Benanti and Gaines come out together and do a dual bow. Then Gaines has his solo bow, then Benanti.
Wrong. They come out together -- Benanti bows, and THEN Gaines bows.
I thought it was a very odd setup, but I have seen the show now twice in previews and noticed it both times.

Boy, I don't think any musical production has been so well-received since THE PRODUCERS. These are "line down the block/million dollars sold the next day" reviews.
Good for the team - they deserve it. Some of the modern directors and writer can learn from this production.

Let's say Patti would win the Tony...wouldn't that make all of Rose's from the Arthur Laurents' directed productionsbe the only Rose's who have won Tonys??

I am just getting around to reading the reviews. I really hope to see the show in May.
But I just can't stop laughing over blaxx's remark about Murray not having sex in years! Just too funny! I will be chuckling all day over that one.

There isn't anymosity BETWEEN Patti and Bernadette. It's completely from Ms. LuPone's side of the aisle because she felt she was the only one to be cast in the 2003 revivial as well as the 99 Annie Get Your Gun. And as Arthur Laurents has stated, Bernadette was the only woman to be considered and offered the job in the 2003 revial! That's makes Patti unhappy because she feels she is the one who should inherit all of Merman's roles. She's the only one who has said anything public about it. Bernadette has never mentioned a thing.

Hello,
I personally loved both of them in the role.
LuPone makes the role aggressive and Bernadette made Rose sensual and sexy.
Both were excellent for different reasons.
I do think Patti deserves a Tony award for this show!

What has Patti said publicly about Bernadette?
Or is it all in your mind?

No PalJoey, it's not in my mind but rather The New York Times - or at least I believe that was the paper that ran the rather lengthy interview with Ms. LuPone during which she claimed all the roles she wanted always went to Bernadette. I don't have the link to the article but perhaps someone on this board who has better archives than I do can provide you with the link.
Enjoy Patti's reviews but there is no reason to get bitchy about someone simply correcting the facts.
