Posted: 7/16/07 at 11:37amI've never done one of these before. I am going to Lincoln Center tonight. Will they let us know then and there if we are getting in? All they would need to do is hand out numbers or sign people up as they arrive for a count. I have no trouble waiting, but I'd hate to wait 2 hours and then not get in.

It happens- I was at a screening once where we waited slightly over two hours and ended up not getting in- but it was possibly the most poorly run screening I have *ever* attended, and I think in the hands of anyone else they would have known their capacity, been able to stop 'theatre jumpers,' and been able to cut us loose much earlier.

Posted: 7/16/07 at 12:12pmIf anyone lives in Richmond, VA (or nearby), there is a screening tonight at the Short Pump 16 at 7:30. Passes are available at the Times Dispatch offices downtown and in Hanover. Got mine when they opened the doors at 8:30 this morning after shreiking a little bit when I saw the notice in the paper! My experience with these RTD Press Pass thingys is to get there at least an hour ahead of time for a decent seat...though there weren't many people lined up for passes (and there usually are a fair amount of people queued up when they hand them out). Anyhow, just an FYI!

Posted: 7/16/07 at 12:27pmIt really depends on the auditorium the screening is in. I once attended a Harry Potter screening and was about halfway down the line. When we got into the auditorium, I was surprised we even were let in, because there is no way that the theater was that big. Turned out about half the people in front of us decided to get concessions before getting a seat, a bog no-no when you are attending screenings, because they do the counting as you are seated.

Posted: 7/16/07 at 12:42pmlike fosse said, it depends on the venue. I went to a DREAMGIRLS screening here in D.C. right before the movie was released and it wasnt too bad. showed up about 45 min to an hour early and only 15 people ahead of me in line. but as the clock ticked on the theater became a madhouse and it got extremely crowded. i dont know what the case will be tonight...

Posted: 7/16/07 at 2:04pmThe one in Dallas is tonight, but I have to work until 11:30. Is it worth it to call in sick, or should I just wait until the 20th? I really do want to see it...

Well I'm going but some of you have some horror stories like waiting 2 hours and not getting in? Yikes.
Well, I saw a screening of Dreamgirls and had no problem getting in. However, this movie does seem to be getting better reviews and thus might be more popular with the masses. I shall see.
Thanks for providing the link to the passes. Though, I didn't find out about them from this board, I found out about them by doing a search which lead me to a blogger who linked the passes to the hairspray website from their blog. However, that person did get the original information for this board, so Thanks!!!!

Posted: 7/16/07 at 3:35pmI'll be reading Harry Potter in line to pass the time. I'm really behind, I'm still on book 5 (Order of the Phoenix). What's sad is, I bought it in 2003.

Um, shouldn't you guys be already heading over to the movie theater instead of asking all these questions on the computer?
Remember -- those things ARE 'first-come; first serve'. It isn't assigned seating.

I saw it and it was EXCELLENT. WOW!
Loved it! It really should be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and it should IMO, win the GG for Best Musical. Wonderful.

Posted: 7/17/07 at 12:19amWhat a rip-off and waste of time. No one got in in SF, NY, and other cities. I waited in line and I was near the front of it. Total bull****.

Posted: 7/17/07 at 12:21amAmen. If the purpose of offering these screening passes was to create word of mouth, I guess that's what it got.

So tell me how I went to the AMC in Lincoln Square at like 4:00 and go there stood in line for a ****ing 3 hours. i was near the front of the ****ing line too... like maybe the 20th-30th person on the line. and find out those idiots said that you need a yellow ticket and plus people who waited like me for hours ahead started going in front of the line. wtf? i am seriously pissed that it was only a promotion with a yellow ticket and the movie workers there said they didn't know about a seperate screening. WTF. I stood there for 3 hours and my butt hurts from sitting in the ground and no tickets. So pissed offf..... Sorry but I think those idiots just lost money from the box office.
i am planning to go to the today show when the cast of hairspray goes there. seriously, someone needs to stand up and say something about this because its not fair to us that we went there and stood in line for hours and no screening.
