Giant - West End

Couldn’t find a subject post about this so creating a new one.

At today’s matinee and they’re filming for worldwide distribution. Makes me think a transfer won’t be happening this season.

Did they say it’s for worldwide distribution? I’m not saying at all that you’re wrong, just curious if they said that.

Its what the message says throughout the theater. Will post when I’m able. Mind you, it also says “intended for…” so there is a carve-out.

Betting this play transfers to NYC and beyond. It is very good and deals with antisemitism head on, at a time it's on the rise.

Maybe they are filming to show NYC and international producers to help book it?

...or even a pro shot?

Transferring AND a proshot - that’s the message board dream combo.

and right on cue it is Jordan with an obnixous comment that adds nothing to the actual conversation

Considering you were too lazy to quote the message you are inferring but if it happens to be.

"Transferring AND a proshot - that’s the message board dream combo. "

What is wrong with that? I think the majority of the people here would be happy with both.

I might also add that your comment added nothing to the actual conversation.

I'll think about it once you grow up.

Jordan is one of the few people contributing anything of note to these boards, so I’m not sure where this comment is coming from.

Anyway, this play has all the makings of a NY transfer, and I hope it does. The last time I saw John Lithgow onstage was All My Sons and, while tremendous in that, he deserved a better production.

I hope it comes over. His schedule for Harry Potter can’t possible be that big for the first couple of seasons to make him completely unavailable for a run.

Your mouth to God’s ear. I’d love nothing more for this remarkable, smart, “talky” play (…there are so few good ones anymore) to transfer and for Lithgow to get another Tony. That said, this production is not associated with the National Theater to the best of my knowledge but derives from the Royal Court. Does the National present non-National shows for broadcast?

Oh, here’s the pic of the sign that I took, hope it comes through

My theory has been he took the Harry Potter job because he was already going to be in the UK anyway for Giant and shooting a supporting role in a TV show would easily fit into his schedule. And considering he's made no secret of his desire to do Giant on Broadway (as well as try for a film adaptation) I'm sure he and his team are already scoping out potential theaters that would be open when he's not at Hogwarts.

To be fair, taking Harry Potter requires him to go to the UK for the next 7-8 years, not just being there this year, and he’s said in interviews that he will be ready to be on set once Giant closes, and only do costume/makeup tests during the run.
