I went to WHOOPI tonight and I have to say it was the best 90 minutes of my life. The show was not just a typical comedic show but, it was also informative and VERY emotional. I am sure those of you who have seen the show agree that the disabled character she did in the show was so touching and wonderful. I really would like to see her have a successful run on broadway.

You were there tonight Amneris? I didn't see you.... I worked the opening -- I spent most of the night standing out in the street near the press line in a long black tuxedo jacket.

She got a mixed to negative review in the Times by Isherwood. I thought his points -- lack of direction, too much Whoopi and too little characterization -- weren't so much wrong as irrelevant. She couldn't really be the young, fresh unknown she was 20 years ago. This time, we don't go to discover raw talent, but rather to celebrate an artist who has had a rocky but memorable ride. Revisiting her first success is poignant, and flaws and all, still gives us a reason to cheer her artistry--and yes, her political fervor.
She's an American original--and a success story--a black woman from the projects who's gone on to take every major award and become a multi-millionaire. She has a right to speak up and out, and long may she do so.
yup i was with my friend and we were walking like ducks :) I decided to come in early and walk up from christopher street.. Stupid me wore my mothers shoes and by the time I got to the theater, I don't know how I was still alive. I was also kind of confused as to why half the people in our section came to an opening in jeans and tshirts.

Im surprised I didn't see you, Amneris. I noticed pretty much anyone and everyone I knew who went in.

We were in Balcony Row C first 2 seats. Our usher refused to seat anyone lol. He was just like "see those 2 people? you are 5 seats to the left of them" and everyone was getting so confused and going to the wrong seats and the usher was getting annoyed!

haha
well I didn't actually come IN the theatre. I was just outside before the show -- mostly milling around with the people from my office and the guys doing security -- making sure the celebrities went through the press line and got their tickets from us.

Not required unless you're working with the show, the production company, or the press agent. Otherwise, it's just a nice touch... and it's fun to get all dressed up for an opening.
