I don't find the production itself anywhere near as unappealing as I find the money-grubbing, desperate, used-car salesman that is Ken Davenport and his various "schemes" to "bring the theatre world into the 21st century". In his head, he is the visionary leader of some new kind of theatre and in "real" life, he is just sad and a bit scary.

My dealings with him have been quite genial.
Or genital.
As for TRIBES, I sincerely hope it can make the move to Broadway. I also hope they can offer more interpreted performances if it does!
I was hoping that once Circle in the Square was open that the Arena Stage production of Oklahoma! could find its way to Broadway.
Is posting "People need to come see our show or else it's gonna close soon!!" really a savvy thing for a producer to do? It makes him look desperate and whiny.

It works in a world where every naive and desperate fangirl will echo that plea on their Tumblr and on Facebook. They don't know or care what sounds professional.
And remind me who listens to naive and desperate fangirls exactly. They're a huge demographic, but they're not exactly coming out in droves for this thing, or it wouldn't be closing on my birthday.
(Yes, June 24 is my birthday. However, I don't think it would be a good publicity angle to say they've seen reason just in time for cake; they might want to lean on June 24 being the feast day of John the Baptist, or some other feelgood crap.)
To those who will inevitably respond: I'm sorry, I'm a snarky bitch. Better than being desperate and whiny, because it's twice as much fun.
We also are being very generous with the definition of "professional" in regards to the producers of this fiasco.
I certainly didn't find it to be a fiasco, but I have no need to attend a second time...and I would have liked to have seen Bleu as I enjoyed his performance in ITH quite a bit.
It certainly lasted longer than anyone here anticipated.
That's true. No one thought it would get past the dreaded winter. It's also held on after receiving no Tony nominations.
It might be easy for some of you to say, "Just shut it down, put it out of its misery," but if I were the lead producer of a Broadway production that I really believed in, that decision would be far from easy for me to decide. Not that I'm saying what Ken has done is tasteful or successful, but I think this is the situation he's in.
I'm grateful that this production gave us Michael Holland's awesome vocal arrangements. What he did with ten or fewer voices was really great in my opinion.

So Dolly, in other words it would be more accurate for you to say that "Godspell" is the ONLY thing you've seen this year, rather than the BEST thing you've seen this year. It would also help others judge the breadth of your theater-going this season, which seems to be slight.

Not "slight" because GODSPELL is a tremendous show. I hope the show runs for years so I can break my HELLO, DOLLY! record of 74 visits.
