I'm sorry for starting another thread on this topic. But, I am trying to convince my parents into letting me join this Club. I would need their permission of course and I was wondering if you can confirm my facts. For any show that is offered you can get 2 complimentary tickets. Now my question is are the 200 shows they say were offered (they are in the box next on the welcome page) the ones you can get complementary tickets to? I am a little confused by that. I understand I will not be seeing shows such as Once, BOM, etc. but I think this is a great offer. I just want to make sure I'm not feeding bad info on.
Thanks!
You can get up to two tickets to each show with the $100-range subscription. The more expensive one allows you to purchase up to four tickets to each show.
The shows listed on the sidebar are just a sampling of the shows they've had on the site in the last few months or so. Not necessarily the shows that will be available for you. It's a site you're probably going to have to check multiple times a day, in order to get tickets to the more high profile shows they offer. They have limited tickets and just because you subscribe, it doesn't mean you're guaranteed tickets to anything. You have to check and reserve the tickets yourself.
But those shows that are offered, although not all, are the ones I am eligible to receive free tickets to? I just want to make sure I have that one point down. I am pretty sure we will be doing the 2-ticket package. Thank you.
There is no way of knowing what will be offered in the future. What's available changes constantly -- you just don't know.
I joined Theatermania Gold in August, and I'll try to help you. First off, you should join at a time when a free show that you want to see is offered. When I joined, for my $99 membership I got two tickets to Chaplin, which my friend and I both enjoyed very much (contrary to what many critics seemed to feel about the show). Now, Picnic is offered. Is that something you want to see? If so, joining is a very good deal.
As you know, Theatermania is a seat-filling service that helps supply an audience for shows that are struggling for some reason. Many good shows find themselves in this situation. But other times, a show is not finding an audience because it is bad, sad to say. So you will find quite a mixture.
Your age might also be an issue. Many of the shows on Theatermania Gold take place in cabaret venues such as the Cutting Room, the Laurie Beechman Theater, Birdland, and BB King's. A $15 minimum is usually called for in those venues. If you are not of legal age to drink, I don't know what happens.
I just took a look at the 200 shows offered in that flashing sidebar. I do remember seeing most of them offered on the site. I agree with WickedRock's answer. To get the most use out of the service, it helps if you can check the site a couple of times a day and pounce on the tickets you can use. It's actually fun to check, and once in a while something really good will show up.
Since I joined in August, I have gotten a pair of tickets to 11 shows. One of them I hated, and one was just okay, but I really enjoyed the rest! Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll try to help.

What I've found is that the club is good if you are open to new things.
Like you can't restrict yourself and say I will only see Broadway shows
I've seen some stuff that I've loved and other things I wasn't so crazy about. It all depends on the person.
The intro offer makes the $100 package worth it.
Thanks for all of the help guys. Yeah, I am 14 but I plan on seeing off-Broadway shows. I really only see Broadway and there seems to be amazing stuff on that side this season! I understand about the cabarets and while I would love to go, I have to understand. Thanks for the information guys! (And I'm actually already going to see Picnic. Maybe I will wait until February or thenext offer.)
When I log on and see the list of shows, those are the shows (whatever they are) that I can get complementary tickets to? I'm sorry for not being more specific. Thanks for the help. I hope to join this! It sounds great.

Not really. Right now the 2 free ticket/intro offer is only for the Roundabout show "Picnic," but it changes every few months. The Gold Club folks are really nice, and answer e-mails, so if there's a particular show you see mentioned up there, they might be able to tell you if they think it'll be offered at some point as the intro, or even what they think might be coming next.
I totally recommend Gold Club though; great people and I have seen lots of wonderful stuff with them
No, those are not the shows you can get complimentary tickets for. Those are the shows that were offered in the past month. You don't know what will be offered in the future and available to you. Just like dramamama said.

So the shows that would be featured on the site next month will be available to get free tickets for? Not the shows on that list, but shows that will be on in the future.
Is Picnic the only show on the whole site that is offering complementary tickets now? Is it only one show at a time?
I'm sorry guys for clouding up the board. I think I understand. Thanks for all the help.

I think I understand what you are asking. No, it's not one show at a time. At this moment, there are about 22 shows on the list and available to members. Most of them are in cabaret venues, and a couple are off-off-Broadway and are found on TDF's $9 list.
Also keep in mind that you will need to pay $4.50 service charge per ticket, so the pair of "free" seats will cost you $9.

Just saw The Other Place this past Sunday. Comps 1st row orchestra center. No complaints here. Great show. Metcalf was outstanding & her daughter was quite good as was Stern.
I also saw The Other Place via Theatermania Gold, but the tickets went really fast and I was lucky to have checked the site at the right time. Of course there could be more offered in the future! Mr Roxy was really lucky; I was in the mezzanine.

In my opinion, Play By Play is better than Gold Club, but I have been disappointed with both as of late.

If you pay the $99 and sign in tonight, you will see the 22 shows that are on offer and yes, you would be eligible for the comp tickets for any of them with the $4.50 fee. You may log in tomorrow morning and a great Broadway show would be offered, and yes, you would be able to get yourself tickets for that, too. Evita was offered back in July when Ricky was on vacation, and Peter and the Starcatcher recently. For Off Broadway If I haven't Found it with Jake G. and Water by the Spoonful have been offered many times - it was great to see both shows without paying full for them. I also sat mezz for The Other Place! It was so good I'm going to go back and get front row.
Have you tried studentrush.org? Not as much of a selection as TM but it's free to join, and the tickets are only $4.50. I saw Civil War Christmas with Alice Ripley twice as well as Scandalous from that site. Definitely get TM, though, you will enjoy the selection. Just remember to keep checking the site because the tickets do go fast!
Thank you. I got everything and I think I am going to join. I will also look into the other suggestions.
Also, regarding cabaret shows-When I was a teenager, I was allowed to go to cabaret venues with food/drink minimums if I had a parent or adult with me. (I also did go without one to some venues and they just let me have soda or whatever.) If you're not adverse to having a parent go with you, you might be able to attend cabaret events.
I was about your age when I started going to the theater, and like you, I only went to Broadway. I wish I had been more a more adventurous theater goer at that age - I think of all the shows I missed because I was a Broadway Baby. I hope you join the TheaterMania Gold Club, and I hope you take a few chances off and off-off Broadway.
I'm not adverse to taking my parents but I. Not sure if they will want to go. I think I am most likely joining. This seems like a great thing and stupid to not do. It's a great deal. Thanks for the responses guys, you helped me out a lot.

Can someone who is/has been a member of both Theatermania Gold and its primary rival service say whether the former is a better bet for hot shows that sell out in a nanosecond on the latter? I'm trying to make a final decision. Thanks!
Member of both right now....I would say Gold Club is a tad better. The other one gets Radio City, MSG and Beacon exclusives but GC gets several dates go up as a bartering service for banners on their main site. I saw Priscilla Evita, Ghost and PATSC because of this. The people at GC are a zillion times nicer and their rules not as harsh.
Is it usually weekday only? Or are weekend tickets often available?
How far in advance can you get tickets? Is it always the few days before?
Most Broadway shows are for weeknights although a few have come up for weekends. GC on occasion will give you a couple of weeks but most times a day or two. The other group a day or two but on some occasions a couple of houts. You never know.
I just noticed that two complimentary tickets to Ann are now being offered to those who sign up for Theatermania Gold now. So if that's something you want to see, the $99 for the year's membership would be worth it!

I searched "theatermania gold club" on google and the second link is to a student offer for $60. The school I graduated from is on the list when you go to register, you think they'll find out or even care that I'm not a current student? And there's no mention of the free introductory ticket offer (Ann) on that page so I guess you don't get it with the reduced student rate?
