Great Comet Question

I know it's like a dinner theatre set, but do you actually get dinner while you see the show?

#2

Great Comet Question

Nope. Previous staging had food options, but not this incarnation.

Not even pierogi?   I got one both times at the ART.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Cost prohibitive I imagine...

I don't know about the pierogi- I imagine the logistics of handing those out to an audience at the Imperial are difficult. They'd have to buy, store, and then distribute 1000+ of them all over the theatre.

I was referring more to the food that was available for purchase off-Broadway- Kazino in Meatpacking had full meals and the one in Midtown had lots of snacky things (crudité and stuff).

Great Comet Question

I saw an article about the producers/creative time picking pierogi for the Broadway run, so I think at least some of the audience gets those.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

They do give out dumplings (I had seen that article about the pierogi picking as well, so was surprised when it was a dumpling). I am not sure if every person in the theatre got them or not.

Malloy tweeted this as a response on one of the #cometquestions -

Totally separate question, but I didn't feel like it deserved its own thread. Does anyone know why they're having a Monday show on 12/19? Just seems kind of random and I can't seem to find any other shows with performances that day.

Great Comet Question

Maybe they are cutting a matinee from that week.

Great Comet Question

Last night they had dumplings, but in the orch section, they only handed them out to a few people, basically whoever jumped first at the invitation.  Did everyone get one in the stage seating section?

Probably holiday schedule related.

I'm not sure about the banquets, I was in one of the "sunken taverns" and the person who brought them to us brought enough for everyone in the tavern, it seemed.

Great Comet Question

Not everyone got them tonight, my end of the row was able to get the boxes but the actor handing them out then had to show an empty basket to the opposite end. (I was in an onstage banquette.)

I was seated in the third stage right row and other than not being able to see the staircase connecting orchestra to mezzanine on that side due to the proscenium arch, the view was great. A lot of interaction takes place right in front of the first banquette on that side (which happened to have Terrence Mann and family seated there tonight!), and Anatole took a seat in the second row. When I first realized that would block the staircase, I worried I'd miss the Old Bolkonsky scene because there was a platform on that side at ART but that's been relocated right below the upstage door at center stage. I loved the location - I could see the door, the ramps, and the mezzanine. The side banquette seat I had at ART doesn't exist for this production. A nice touch are front bars beneath the staircases for easier access if you're onstage (You get to your seat by climbing the backstage staircases via the lobby and come down from the upstage door, but that's enter only and you use the front ones to get offstage.) although only the main bar has a soda dispenser.

Don't worry, nothing happens in the mezzanine that is a must see for the action if you're below the overhang but there are moments Pierre and Natasha are at center in the front of the mezzanine singing back at someone below.
