Great Comet is going to be filmed for the Lincoln Center Archives as revealed by Josh Canfield.... As the fanbase for Great Comet increases a lot by the day, the show needs to be put in movie theaters or on BroadwayHD as it is so popular and many people would love to see the magic of Great Comet! Please sign this petition! It is unlikely, but it may help!

Almost all broadway shows are filmed for the Lincoln Center Archives. This most of the time becomes the property of the Lincoln Center Library. They will not release it for BroadwayHD. You can walk in and see hundreds of old broadway shows there, but you need to prove that it is for research (either for a production you are a part of or for a paper or something). And if I recall, you can only watch the show once.

Also, the Lincoln Center Archives films for archival purposes so camera angles are not intended for commercial release so the framing and composition is more to archive the set design and staging. They are not filmed like these commercially released filmed Broadway productions.
The recording is the sole property of Lincoln Center and it would be entirely unprecedented for them to release it to the public. Even if this petition changed their feelings on the matter, the filming contract that they've already signed probably strictly prevents any kind of public release outside of the library. Theoretically, BroadwayHD COULD record it, but it would have to be an entirely different recording - a different performance, with a different film crew, and a different set of contracts. If you want to start a petition, that's the one to start. It's still highly unlikely to do any good, but getting Lincoln Center to release their recording is just absolutely 100% not going to happen.

The petition draws a comparison to FALSETTOS. The recording that was seen in theatres/BroadwayHD/PBS was done in an entirely different fashion. It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Well it's probably to late for it now to be filmed, as I don't think they use the same video as Lincoln if they do release it. Thoufh dave has pointed out on twitter that it won't get filmed as it costs A LOT of money to film it, and he said most people won't get it, which is kinda sad, but I get where he is coming from cuz they can't preserve the immserdiveness on video. Also just wondering what date they are filming?

I actually disagree. With such an unconventional stage, there are plenty of places for cameras to hide and get some real closeups.
Nearly every Broadway show gets filmed for the LC. This is not surprising in the least.
As far as "proving" your reason for watching? Not so hard. You just state your reason. And yes, unless they've changed the rules recently, you can only watch a specific film once.
I've lost count at how many stupid and pointless Great Comet petitions have been done in the past month.

Too late for this, but there are immersive camera rigs that film 360 and allow for you to virtually "turn your head". That would have been a big undertaking, possibly blocked a lot of seats, and we would have to pick the location to film it very carefully (I'd vote for front mezz), but it can be done.
If they want to get a good overview (but not a typical view) they could film from the back of the banquettes-this lets you see what's going on in the Mezz and front orchestra too

Yeah there are definitely some very cool things they could have used to film it, but it would have cost so much money. And there just isn't the demand to justify that cost
