I knew it was a bad example. I was trying to think of something pleasant and I was trying to avoid Webber.
At one point I was going to write out, "Fancying yourselves as out of time as Nellie McKay" but it was too involved.
And anybody who knows me knows I wouldn't kick Brian Darcy James out of my adult video booth for wearing green makeup.
Buddy Booths! My dad laughed so much the first time he saw a sign for one of those.
Bumping out of curiosity - does anyone know anything further about this project? Rehearsals should be starting fairly soon at Berkeley Rep, I believe.
@Berkeley Rep Season
Recent two-time Tony Award winner Tom Kitt is the music director. That's all I know.
Great News!!!
It is also my understanding that Marvin Hamlisch is going to be adapting KC and the Sunshine Band's 1970s opus "I'm Your Boogie Man" into a 3-act rock opera. The plot will focus on third-world black marketers and will include a subplot about air-conditioning repair. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Al Roker are set to star, with Nick Adams in a supporting role as a shirtless veterenarian. Cutting edge, folks.

This is going forth. I'm fairly certain that rehearsals have started (in upstate NY) for now but are moving soon to CA.
It's currently slated to run Sept/Oct with the possibility of extention through November. Of course, the hope is that it will transfer to NY.
Yes, I remember hearing about Tom Kitt too. I wish the cast list would be made official as well. Are any others certain besides John Gallagher, Gerard Canonico, and Theo Stockman?
Well I know rehearsals have started, only because Theo left Hair last week to go start rehearsing. Damn I wish I could see it... (mostly because I love this album. but also kind because of Theo hah)
To my knowledge, almost the entire cast from the workshop is continuing with it. When the EPA notice was sent around, all the roles were already listed as cast.
Obviously Patina Miller is out because of SISTER ACT in London, but all the others (I listed them on the first page of this thread) seem to be available.
From what I've heard of what's currently going down at Vassar, it sounds like it's going to be pretty great. I'm excited for it. The album is VERY theatrical and lends itself pretty easily to the stage.

According to his myspace, Declan Bennett is in this.
Well if theres anything to be said on Berkley Reps account, its that almost everything that comes out of this freaking phenomenal theatre company is almost always spell-binding and ingenious. Some of the most transcendent and boundary-bending pieces of legit theatre that I saw while living in SF were at the Rep (and later transferred to NYC with great acclaim, including Passing Strange, Eurydice and the forthcoming Wishful Drinking).
Vassar! I couldn't think of the campus. YES...that's where they are. Isn't Brian Charles Johnson a part of this as well?
Declan Bennett too? I saw him as Roger in RENT, and loved him. Why don't I live in Berkeley?? (Though, then I wouldn't be able to enjoy Broadway as much would I?)
Ugh, I hate this album, but I'm interested to see what comes of it. I just hope it's not as pretentious as Spring Awakening.
I'm game because I love Green Day (and American Idiot), but, like some others, I worry whether it'll find an audience. I'm hoping for the best, though!
I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I love the album and think it could make a great stage show if it's done right.
Well, I'm afraid that no matter how good the show might be, Green Day is WAY too limited a fan base. I don't mean amongst the 20 somethings and below...but among the theater going public.
Looking forward to hearing about it though.

yes Declan Bennett is doing it. Last conversation I had with him he seemed really excited about it. He said they are contracted at Berkley through mid-October but they are hoping for an extension til at least mid-November.

Anybody know when tickets go on sale, or have they already?
Interesting...I'm curious to see how this works and I'm totally going to give it a chance...but seriously...can people PLEASE start writing some ORIGINAL shows?
Haha, I'm actually excited for this, though. I just hope it isn't a Spring Awakening rip off, as was stated earlier.

They haven't announced when tickets go on sale. They did put some of the preview dates onsale when they first announced the show but they've been sold out for awhile. But, Berkley Rep's prop department needs some help finding things for the show and if you can help them out they'll put you in a drawing for a pair of tickets. Click the link for details.
