So according to Playbill, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be getting a cast album recorded by Masterworks and will be released at the end of October. It will feature original cast members Patrick Page, John Cullum and Rusty Ross. It will also apparently feature bonus tracks of cut material.
I am very excited for this and have wanted a recording of this show for a long time especially with Patrick Page who I thought was absolutely fantastic as the Grinch.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas to get Cast Recording

Santa finally got my list!

That means we're closer to getting a CRY-BABY recording!
lol. jk.
Seriously... I want one.
This one actually makes financial sense though. Granted, it would have made more sense when the show was on Broadway, but if they continue to tour it and put it up at Madison Square Garden like they did last year, this CD will sell. Not to mention the production in San Diego which has played annually for 15 years. They even have a Grinch gift shop set up across from the theatre with everything Grinch and Dr. Seuss related that you could possibly imagine. Every year customers ask for a CD with music from the show and every year they're told there isn't one. Now there will be.
^^ Exactly. And what really made this more exciting for me was the fact that they have Patrick Page returning which I think was the biggest highlight of the show.
Masterworks announced that they had the rights to the cast album almost 2 years ago. I've been waiting for them to announce a release date.

And of course with a cast album it makes it that much easier to start marketing the show for licensing to regional and community theaters.
I'm glad Robert Sher is producing it too. I was pretty pleased with his work on the How to Succeed revival recording. The extended Barnes & Noble version is the best with the Overture, Entr'acte, Bows and Exit Music all included. If that was all him that was wonderful. I wish more cast recordings would include all that music.
Isn't "A Christmas Story" playing MSG instead of this? In any case, in really excited for this recording and overjoyed that Page is involved!
^Yes. There are dates for 2013 posted on the official website.

Thanks for the update CATS!
This is the description on Amazon.
"In Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical, Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. The World Premiere Recording includes cast members from the original Broadway cast and features the hit songs "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the beloved original animated series, plus a bonus recording of Where Are You Christmas from the live action Grinch movie. With additional music and lyrics by Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason, Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical breathes new life into the timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas."
lol. Now BWW is reporting on it, but they're calling it an "Original Cast Recording" which it's not.

Can't wait to hear it! And yes, only the three leads are from the original Broadway company. I guess world premiere recording suits it better.
Amazon has updated the cover artwork, but still no track list yet.

Looks like they're including a new Overture and not the creepy musical prelude that opens the show on stage. That's a shame. I love that opening music in the show.

The opening of the show and it's "spooky" music are on the album as it was in the production.
Has there been any additions to the show since Broadway? Such as an overture? Haven't seen this since 2007.

AKarp2013, as far as I know the second year it played on Broadway is the final version. That year they cut "Once in a Year" (which is one of the bonus tracks on the CD) and they added a few others including "This Time of Year" and "It's The Thought That Counts." There is no overture in the show. The overture has been written specifically for the CD.
