really...guess.
Jennifer Holliday
Quick way to make a buck, and one would hope she has the lines down by now.
I suppose it would be completely fair to say that Holiday might be a "one-trick-pony", but if she can still recreate the emotional excitement she created (and IMO, Hudson only imitated onscreen), God Bless.
Please, somebody write a show for: Andrea McArdle, Jodie Benson and Jennifer Holiday!!!!!

I think "one more time" is the part of this thread headline that should really be in quotations.
You know that shiz is gonna sell out in a minute. I might make a little fun, but I'd sure as hell be buying a ticket.

Well, she's certainly told me she's not going. Again and again.
" but if she can still recreate the emotional excitement she created "
If her tv performances the last few years are anything to go by... the answer is a resounding "no".

I dunno... I saw her duet with Hudson and I think she's still got it.
Jennifer Holliday vs Jennifer Hudson - And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going

Michael Bennett's estate should sue her. She's still using the same line readings he gave her 30 years ago. She should be paying royalties on those line readings.

Oh, Jordan! Everyone knows the "...don't crack" adage!
Look at Cicely Tyson. Holy frijoles! Given the educated speculation of her real age, she's "too old" to play Carrie Watts, but who could tell?

Do people really care about the line readings in that particular role? I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think Hudson won the Oscar for her acting/line delivery. In that particular role, I think people pay to hear And I Am Telling You (...and the line, 'because you're lyin', you're lyin' I never been sooo thin-NAH')

You've obviously never heard her deliver the line "No one can see her on record."

John Adams - you're DEFINITELY in the minority... I know I'm pointing out the obvious.
I saw Jennifer Holliday in the original Dream Girls and her acting wasn't great but THAT SONG! WOW! It literally blew the roof off the theatre. When she gasps that big breath at the end, she sucked half the audience in her big mouth. It was AMAZING. I thought Jennifer Hudson was awful in the movie. Just awful. How she won the Oscar is beyond me. Although she does sing well too. When Hudson Sang "I GOT LOVE" from Purlie on SMASH she was also AMAZING! I saw Melba Moore sing that in the 70's and she was wonderful but Hudson did a great job.

You thought Hudson's acting was as good as her singing?

Hooray for Curtain8. This place needs more people who don't know what the word "literally" means.
There is something I call expression of speech. I took literary license with my speech. Sue me! (Are you really going to sue me) I doubt it.

"She's too old for the role now..."
In the script, they're going to have to change a few lines.
I have a baby now...well she's not a baby anymore, she's seventeen.
