On Wednesday my two friends and I are rushing Xanadu for the 8pm show and we are indecisive about the second show we are going to rush that day.
We are all seventeen age range and have enjoyed Rent, Spring Awakening, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Company and Young Frankenstein.
At this point both Passing Strange and Gypsy seem to be love or hate shows on this board. Any suggestions based on our ages and show likings.
Also I know that Xanadu is right next to Gypsy so if we end up rushing Gypsy and we get offered Balcony seats is it worth it to be that far from the stage?

As far as front row goes you miss one part where Patti and Boyd fall on the stage and so you can't quite see what's going on. Other than that front row was amazing!
And as far as your decision goes, I've seen both and you can't go wrong either way.

PASSING STRANGE. trust me, Gypsy will always be around: it is a LANDMARK musical. Passing Strange will probably never be revived, it is a one-of-a-kind extrodinary theatrical experience that you will not forget.
Stew and the whole cast/band are fantastic, the staging is awesome, and the show is... to use an overused word... BRILLIANT.
Go! Go! Go!

Personally, I think you should scrap the plans for Xanadu and rush Gypsy and Passing Strange. I agree with Caroline that Passing Strange will definitely never be revived, and it's something that won't last too long on Broadway because it's pretty much non-existent without this cast, particularly Stew and his band. It's not worth missing because it's completely and utterly unique and if you liked Rent and Spring Awakening it's definitely got that high energy rock concert vibe.
GYPSY is a musical you'll probably be able to see many more times in your future, but it is definitely a better show than Passing Strange, and I seriously doubt there will ever be a woman who can do what Patti LuPone is doing in the role of Mama Rose. It's one of the most magnificent things I've seen in my life.

I agree with BroadwayGirl. Unless your hearts are really set on seeing Xanadu, rush Gypsy and Passing Strange.
I did the Gypsy rush on Saturday, an hour before curtain. My friend and I got front row, dead center. The stage WAS high but it was phenomenal. You feel like Patti is singing to you in Rose's Turn and just that moment is worth the money. Like Alicia said, there's about 30 seconds of the show that you may miss but that's IT.
Both are such outstanding and not-to-be-revived shows. Go see Passing Strange and Gypsy.

I really loved Passing Strange, so don't count it out.
It really is a fantastic show, and may not be around for too much longer either.

Gypsy is a solid and amazing show, but Passing Strange was a theatrical surprise. I gave both 4.5/5 but I think for now, I would lean towards Passing Strange because it might not last much longer than the Tony's and it would be a shame to miss it.

After these posts I guess my game plan will to be rush gypsy and then within the next month come back and rush passing strange.
Its only a 40 minute train ride into the city.

Posted: 5/19/08 at 9:38pmPretty eclectic taste...why not skip Xanadu and try both PS and Gypsy? I've seen both (admittedly several times for PS)...and I am considerably older than you...but I think PS will be fun.
