re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

Isn't it typical for some shows to experience a boost in ticket sales the day after it opens, especially with positive reviews/word-of-mouth?

Good for Hair. I hope I can catch this soon.

BECAUSE of the amazing reviews...not just because it opened...but still: a half a mil in ONE day.

WOW...and good for them! Also...projecting tix out to Thanksgiving is wonderful news as well!!!!

At full price that's over 4 thousand tickets....and it's not even 6pm!!!!

So should we expect the weekly gross for this week to be a lot higher?

Yes, that's why I said with the positive reviews and word-of-mouth.

Its going to make more money when it wins the TONYS! I am sure that it will win the REVIVAL, so people buy your tixs now!

I think it's going to take Revival, Director, and whichever category they put Will Swenson in.

We will see.. Right now I am not that impressed with the figures. Gypsy got great reviews too and look what happened.

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

It won three Tonys and ran almost a year?

Yeah, they didn't recoup, but I don't think they were expecting to recoup, given the fact that there was a GYPSY revival just a few years ago.

Foster,
That is true. But I am still not impressed with its take in. I was expecting a lot more.

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

Also HAIR hasnt been revived for a long time and those baby boomers (same crowd going for JERSEY BOYS) surely want to relive their hippie years! I think this show will win the TONYS...over WSS ( I might be wrong? but voters are probably tired of Laurents reviving all his shows- its just my feeling..i could be wrong)

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

It's been a day....barely 24 hours that the reviews just started coming in....and the raves didn't come in until much later....and the public READING those reviews didn't see them until sometime during the day. (Not everyone sits around WAITING for reviews to his online!)

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

According to telecharge.. plenty of seats seem to be available. Nothing seems sold out. Why is that? And Drama.. many other shows that didn't fare well had a bigger box office day.

BTW.. I am not putting anything down.. bought my ticket yesterday before the reviews.. was hoping to be able to say I have the hottest ticket in town..

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

I would say Will is a featured and Gavin is lead. I hope they both get nominated and that they both win! This show really is great and deserves so much! I saw it Friday March 27 and loved it and will go back to see it again!

"Gypsy got great reviews too and look what happened."

There have been four revivals of Gypsy since it originally opened, three happening between the late 80s and now. This is the third revival since the late 70s (I am looking at IBDB and the second one didn't even play that long). Anyways, I think the fact that it is being revived is a good thing, and that the major box office sales is a sign of good things to come.

Dame....since I didn't remember hearing more specifically about a one day intake after reviews, I was supposing this was "news".

I got my ticket last week...and still feel like it's the hottest ticket in town. Can't wait!!!!

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

Gypsy was just one example. All I am saying is that with the reviews it got I was expecting a bigger 1st day box office figure.. which is usually a good indication of what kind of run the show will have. What it took in today is the quivalent of not even one weeks worth of performances.

re: 'HAIR' Day after opening boxoffice intake.

I agree that Gypsy might not have 'expected' to recoup....they never planned to try to run it once LuPone left....so even if it sold out for each performance they would have come in at a loss.

Didn't it only close a month early? (ish)
