Yes, there is a "stage door" area.

I know this is a popular event but my GOD people are being SO dramatic that they either haven't gotten a results email yet or didn't get a winners email. Like...CHILL. It's not the end of the world, my goodness.

...I haven’t seen anyone act as if it’s the end of the world. The only overdramatic comment I see is this one.

Okay, real question though: How did 117 people get cast in Hercules? Were there open calls, sign ups, invitation for members in the Public Theater etc.?

It's a Public Works production; the Public Theater partners with different community organizations that will be involved. It's a combination of professional actors and members of those community organizations that are partners with the Public. (I don't know which groups are involved with Hercules, but some organizations that have participated before are Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education, Military Resilience Project, Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, Brownsville Recreation Center, DreamYard Project, the Fortune Society, Domestic Workers United, and Children's Aid Society.)

There are 117 people in the show. Now the people getting PAID is a much, much smaller list.
And you can tell by the set this isn’t some grand scale show. It’s gonna be basic. It’s free theater.

I'm disappointed to not be able to see the show (and I really hope everything doesn't move to TodayTix lotteries as I really have no luck ever winning them) but at the very least I hope they release the new songs somehow. I have fully lowered my expectations. Would I have loved to see James Monroe Iglehart and Jeff Hiller and the muses? Yes. But if I can just hear the 5 new songs I will count that as a win.

I'm sorry for doing this but it's just to justify this comment-take a look through Twitter and Facebook. Apparently, people are either pissed they didn't win, furious with the method used to acquire tickets to this production, or begging others to let them join them if someone who won needs a plus one.
**I'm actually not going to apologize for that because there HAVE been dramatic comments.

After the NY Times article, I didn't expect to win. I put in for 4 days. Didn't win for any of them. My world did not come to an end but I guess some people's did as I have a friend who is being shamed online for winning. Ridiculous.

Not sure why you're taking a nonapologetic stand on this because it's not like anyone would know that you were talking about people in other places. Maybe you should have qualified it by saying "people on Facebook and Twitter" and not just people, because it greatly implied it was people in this thread.

Posted: 8/29/19 at 10:25amIt’s just such a shame that only few can see it. I’m shocked as hell that I got in. It really should have been first come, first served like it has been in the past. I just hope it comes to Broadway before the end of the upcoming decade, so everyone can see it. My friend and I were planning on this as soon as it was announced. But the poor guy didn’t win and he’s out of town on the day I won. Disney can already see this is going to be a smash hit like Aladdin and Frozen. After all, people have been waiting for this specific show forever.

Posted: 8/29/19 at 11:24amDoes anyone have any clue what time they will likely open the doors to get into the theater? It’s the first show I’ve seen at the Delacorte and I won tickets for the Opening Night performance. Thanks!

^I believe around 7 and 7:30. Standby tickets are at 7:30. I'm getting there at 4:30 on Sunday to pick up mine.
About Alan and the producers saying there will be no life for the show after the PT in the NY Times, I don't buy this in the slightest. There is no way Disney would abandon one of their popular demands of a classic Disney film on Broadway, especially if there is this much of a ruckus of no one being able to see it. Plus, look at the huge casting for the leads.
They said the same thing about Prince of Egypt in 2017. Now it’s coming to West End next year and possibly Broadway late 2020/early 2021. Then, Newsies. Instant Broadway transfer over popular demand after “licensing only.” I just read that Hunchback’s Broadway run was only cancelled due to creative differences with producers.
I’m going to guess: This is a very rough draft of a Broadway show like Aladdin’s was in Seattle in 2011. They can not and will not abandon Hercules, a huge classic Disney fave, so damn easily. But if Alan’s statement is true, I’m sad and angry for the public because this was long anticipated and Hercules deserves more than a one show thing.

I'm guessing his statements are more in a literal "we don't have it booked anywhere after this" meaning there's no regional theatre or whatever planned. If response is strong I'd fully expect an announcement it's going to have a production in San Diego/Chicago/wherever in a year or so.
#247HERCULES to Play the Public Theatre this summer!!
Posted: 8/29/19 at 12:09pmThe response is already very very strong. I say we’d defientely get licensing at the most. It would be a hit in the community.

This is my bet: this production is a workshop disguised as a publicity stunt. The last few times Disney has stage-tested B-list properties (and Hercules, like Hunchback, is a beloved cult hit that never trended as hard as the princess shows did), they've presented the material in intentionally "wacky" ways that didn't look like licensing pilot productions. For example, their long-gestating revue "When You Wish" was debuted as a series of super-sized arena spectaculars, the stage version of "The Jungle Book" was done as an environmental fusion of American and Indian theatrical techniques, and now "Hercules" is being done as a giant limited-time immersive park "happening" with a cast of hundreds.
Disney never had ANY intention of transferring these productions, because they're expensive and absurd. What this is, however, is a chance for them to keep one eye not on the production, but on the material. Does "Hercules" work onstage despite not being the wild and zany, reference-heavy cartoon version? Do Menken's new songs gel? Things like that.
