SM2, your insistence on dropping in on every Hairspray thread to remind us (like we care?) how much you disliked the movie is as predictable as it is tiresome. Grow up.
Can you not see the larger picture, which is that this movie's success benefits those of us who love musicals? It only ensures that more musicals will get made in the future. This is a GOOD THING.
I can't believe it hasn't opened in Australia yet. This seems like the type of movie that would appeal to their sensibilities. I'm sure it'll do well there.
I know, LoringsGuy, SM2's comments are certainly tiresome.
Hairspray is now the fourth most successful Movie Musical in 30 years!
The film made $708,000 yesterday taking its domestic total to $104,006,462.
Hanging around the top ten on Friday, at #9 despite a drop in screens. No one seems to care about any of the new releases; Superbad and Bourne are still #1 & #2.
I know, I know. Who cares anymore? Well, I do.
According to BoxOfficeMojo, Hairspray is now a 200 Million Dollar International Hit!
After opening in South Korea earlier this month and continuing to play in a few overseas territories - Hairspray crossed just over 200 Million in Worlwide sales this weekend.
Domestic: $118,871,849
+ Foreign: $81,255,003
= Worldwide: $200,126,852
Congratulations Hairspray.
Merry Christmas!
