Hairspray made $825,000 Monday and $930,000 on Tuesday (Domestic total: $102,560,000)
If Hairspray makes more than $805,956 today it will beat Dreamgirls ($103,365,956) as the #4 grossing musical from 1974-Present.
Well regardless - it will be #4, so yay!
Can it beat Rocky Horror's #3 position at $112,892,319?

Posted: 8/22/07 at 6:10pmI say yes, it will. No way it won't make another $10 million before the end of its run at this rate.

Something tells me that Hairspray will reach the Dreamgirls figure faster than that movie did.
I'm so sorry the Hairspray did not play at the same movie theater that Dreamgirls played at in DC (The Uptown) as the screen is huge and the sound is phenominal. I was hoping that it would eventually move there, but Harry Potter is still playing on that screen. I'm hoping to see Hairspray at least once more on the big screen.

umm yeah. Dreamgirls was in theatres for 126 days and reached $103,365,956.
Hairspray has been in theatres for 33 days and has grossed $102,560,000 thus far.

No, Chicago was in theatres FOREVER. Like 8-9 months or something crazy.
Dreamgirls made it about 4 I think.

Dreamgirls was your average 4 month run.
Chicago was insane. Almost a year.

Mateo,
How long do you think Hairspray will play in theater's?
#167re: Hairspray Box Office Tracking Thread

hahah you ask like I am an expert.
I have no idea how the movie business runs- but Hairspray seems to be doing ok still.
I think it will easily play out the rest of this month and in to September- it all depends if people go see it. If not, theatres will cancel the screens and put in movies that they know will sell.
It will continue to play in theatres where it is getting the most audience. But Hairspray doesn't seem to be leaving the theatres at a rapid rate.

SM2, we get it, you didn't like the movie. A lot of people think differently. It's so sad that you're not able to enjoy such a wonderful movie.
