If you remember the one I made for Dreamgirls way back when, this is like that...
I'll be editing this first post with new numbers as much as possible.

Whee! Just the sort of thread I was looking for. Thanks. Where do you check for BO numbers on the web?

No figures have been released yet but you can normally keep track on box office mojo
boxofficemojo.com is the best, but showbizdata.com has daily numbers up earlier, and you can usually find someone with pretty accurate numbers even earlier on the box office mojo forums.

I'm hearing this $10.9 million number again and again, with that moronic-looking Chuck and Larry movie at $12.5 million and Harry Potter at about $10.2 million. I think Hairspray will definitely outgross Chuck and Larry in the end, the legs will be great.
I saw those same numbers. How exciting. With word of mouth building and repeat viewings (overheard a lady last night saying she was bringing her husband back today!) Hairspray could overtake C & L and open #1 by Monday.
C&L is going to die pretty quickly. I see it dropping enormously next week.
Friday
Chuck/Larry 12.5
Hairspray 11.9
Harry Potter 10.3
CALL HOME, AND GIVE YOUR FAMILY MARCHING ORDERS! YOUR MOTHER CAN BE THE KEY TO US CREEPING AHEAD OF C & L!
A Musical beat Harry Potter, now let's get Adam Sandler!

Those numbers are great. As much as I'd like a #1 spot, I'd rather have a big box office instead.
I'm going to see it again today with my brother, Mother and Grandma.

Marc Shaiman - I saw it yesterday, and ADORED IT!!!! Huge CONGRATULATIONS to you and the whole team! WOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!
thats freaking awesome!
I am trying to get out to see it again- my town has one theatre- and plays 4 movies... guaranteed Up-Chuck is on there.
But the nearest big theatre is 40 minutes away. ug.
If I had a theatre close by- I would be seeing every screening all 3 days... but its not going to happen.
I am going to San Diego next week- and see it a bunch there.

I'm going with a group of four tonight - so that will add to the equation
Greatly looking forward to it, by the way.
That made me really happy, let's just hope for a great box office run!
<<< Last night, I was actually kinda surprised that the movie theatre was not too busy, there were like 2 straight couples, and then all groups of gay men, I loved it!
I want to see it for the 3rd time, maybe I'll go again tonight.
We had three sold out showings at my theater yesterday.
wow thats fabulous.
I was DYING to see this movie opening day, so I went last night. (If I was still living in NYC I would have gone sooner.) So Durham, NC . . . . not a packed theatre, but a decent number of people. The most important thing was that the audience LOVED the movie!!! I thought it was lots of fun, very nicely adapted, and beautifully cast. I certainly hope it does well, because I think the movie carries a great message without having to shove it down your throat.
I want to put a shout out for Queen Latifa. She was a knockout in the movie. In particular, I think her more understated, "ballad" approach to "I Know Where I've Been" packed even more of a punch to the message. I found myself in tears during that sequence.
I saw it twice yesterday and they were both sold out! And the word of mouth cought on because I saw the same couple of people with another group. Keep on Going HAIRSPRAY!!

As of tonight I will have seen it three times. I will probably see it at least once more before sunday night too. Go Hairspray, Go!
I really want this to make a ton of money and get a ton of people into movie musicals so they studios will keep making them.
They underestimate the movie so much.
gay Adam Sandler HUGE APPEAL.
John Travolta, michelle pfeiffer, queen latifah, chris walken, zac efron and amanda bynes singing and dancing, in a family comedy with heart. NO APPEAL
Sweet Jesus, I feel like I'm watching election returns! With some last minute campaigning, I do believe Hairspray can pull #1.
HAIRSPRAY '08!! er, '07!!
