Ok,
So I went down to the set of the new Hairspray movie today at about 5:30 ish…The only lead on set was Nicole Blonsky as Tracy. They were filming bits of Good Morning Baltimore.
First off, the street looks amazing. The storefronts and all the cars and busses are spectacular and I felt as though I had been transported back in time sitting among them. All the extras perfectly done up in early 60’s garb sure helped a lot too. The street itself wasn’t blocked off to pedestrians, and there were quite a few onlookers. The crowd control people kept it very informal in asking people to move when they needed to, and the crowd, being the polite Canadians that they are, complied.
As far as Nicole goes…she is perfect. She is bubbly without being sickening, moves very well and from the playback track sounds great. She sounds a LOT like Marissa only a little less nasal (thank goodness). One cute thing she does is right before “I know every step…”, that last “Baltimore and ME” she squeals the “Me” and it cracked me up every time.
I got to talk to John Waters who was just sort of wandering around, and got his autograph for a co-worker who’s birthday it is next week and is a diehard John Waters fan. He was super nice and laid back and seemed to be enjoying this bizarre experience of watching his film get remade.
The crowd control people were telling eveyone that tomorrow is the day that John will be on set and the other big celebrities start flying in.
Anyways…If you have any more questions let me know. It’s been a long day so I know I forgot stuff. I am gonna go back tomorrow hopefully and see some Travolta.
