"Well i am definitely making plans to go down there, and my camera will be in tow."
I am so terribly jealous of you. Please let us know how it is!
allofmylife- I bet they will have huge lights and reflectors that will probably blind anyones view. :)

This is so exciting, I love that this is being filmed so closely. Akiva, I'm going to have to be doing some set-stalking myself... hopefully I can get down there!
And mateo-- check your PM's please, or let me know if you got mine earlier. :)
replied to ya aaron!
I did my walkby of the location on Spadina from both sides today. The location was amazing. As you walk north up Spadina from College, the street bends sharply to the west just past The Salvation Army shelter (where the drunk on his barroom stool and the flasher are both represented in numbers on the front step, how ironic) and suddenly, you are right in the middle of the shoot. Dozens of fantastic period cars (Tbirds, Ramblers, Dodge stationwagons and yellow school buses from the period are waiting for their que. They have the cars idling all up the street.
The schoolyard is filled with the nicest kids in town, all very short and perfectly dressed in 60's outfits with huge hairstyles (not as big as the stage version but AMiss America big hair anyway. )
They were doing a great dance number to playback. Then later moving in giant arc lamps on self-propelled cranes. This was no simple feat as the neighbourhood is festooned with overhead electrical wiring and tree branches.
Further up Spadina, perhaps two blocks, a yellow sign pointed ot the holding area for "Hairspray backgrounders" and was filled with extras waiting to be bussed down to the set.
Later on, I passed the location on the backside. They were racing to finish for the day as RAIN is coming in tomorrow and Sunday. This must be really putting a crimp in the plans as I suppose the idea was to film over the holiday weekend before the place returns to what it really is - a grades 1-6 public school.
This is a big, big bidget shoot but the honeywagonage was pretty small, indicating, I guess, few of the BIG NAMES in the cast on set at the time. Also, judging from the bored look on the rentanoffdutycop's faces (three per side of the set) Travolta is not around.
I also saw what I assumed was the unit photographer walking toward the set. I assume he's approved as nobody challenged him.
Overall, looks like a good start for the second-or-third day of filming.
thanks allofmylife... can I include your observation on the blog?
Feel free to include! I won't take photos but others will I'm sure.
Somehow, despite living in LA, I managed to miss entirely the filming of "LA Confidential" which is one of my favorite films. I'm happy I'll always be able to say "I saw them filming that" as I think Hairspray may just work out very well indeed!
thank you very much!
- and was it 'Good Morning Baltimore' on playback?
hard to tell what was playing. Streetcars going by, busses idling (those old deisel beast are noisey) and the speakers were facing to the cast AND I couldn't hear if it was vocal or instrumental.
Someone else on this site actually watched the entire sequence (and I think I remember who it was standing there as I passed by, a tall guy with dark hair. The two young women with their mother (sneaking cell phone photos) didn't look like they were real enthusiasts as much as fans).
I would ASSUME it's Good Morning Baltimore.
hmmm step forth person on this site! :)
thanks so much allofmylife!
I am not sure how many people on BWW actually check my hairspray blog - but I just posted some new juicy info!
I've read it, Mateo.
Keep it all coming!
I can't wait to see it!!!!!!!!
(/me is sooooo excited. I just can't hide it!...)

Ahh, I love the face on that woman in the last picture. Great. :)
Whoah, that can't be Link in the picture, is it? That doesn't look like Zach, and if it is him, he looks a bit older.

i am so excited for this movie!
"Also, judging from the bored look on the rentanoffdutycop's faces (three per side of the set) Travolta is not around."
You mean that, if he was around, their look would be of pure panic, trying to avoid his advances ? LOL LOL
IL<3Bway- yep, thats zac!
He looks way different.
Hah...I can't even tell if the rest of those pictures are supposed to be Baltimore..they sure look like modern day Toronto to me (Were I am headed back to in a few hours).
Akiva
Akiva is going to be watching this singing "good morning toronto," I just know it. :)
Where are you right now Aki?
I'm not good at posting pics in the message - buut there is one of Zac on justjared.com - do a search for Hairspray and it'll come up.
I'm back home, out west in the Rockies...cowboy country. I was just here for a week visiting, since I haven't been home in 9 months. But I leave for the airport in 15 minutes, so i should pack up my laptop.
