Hairspray Movie's Link

Ok guys. I'll admit it. I've never seen High School Musical. I heard a couple of the songs from it when I was helping out with 7th grade choir. They are all obsessed with it. Other than that, and the fact that my local wal-mart has pretty much cleared out almost every other soundtrack/OCR/movie musical to make room for HSM, I probably would never have even heard of it.
And as far as this Zac kid goes... I'll give him a chance if he did land the role. We have to be fair to him. And we have to give him credit. At least he's trying to do more with his career than just be one of the tween stars Disney is mass-producing these days. He may not be exactly the person I was picturing for Link, but no matter who the producers chose they would not find someone that pleased every single person. As long as his eyebrows are dyed to match his hair, he won't even annoy me to watch him in the role.

I do not know. I guess thats part of what they mean by "stretching him musically."
I like the fact that in the article they brought up the dubbing, and squashed the thought that he would be dubbed in this.

I'm actually getting to a stage where I would DEEPLY LOVE to see Zac be Link. I'm not at all bothered by his age, and I'm 23. ^_^
The role of Link is probably closer to baritone than the role of Troy (from 'High School Musical'). Troy's songs are pitched pretty high in comparison with Link so that's a fairly valid point there. ^_^
The more the casting continues, the more interested I get.

Hah! Clever, mateo, linking to your site before the actual news.
Good work, but I have it bookmarked already. :)
Also, I guess this is what we're stuck with then. I'm torn. I can't get his UCLA audition out of my head, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with him, and seeing what he'll look like with Link hair and a white suit, but hey, it's their call. I'm sure it'll be... interesting. :)
All I can say is that Corbin Bleu (Chad in High School Musical) hopefully won't come up as a Seaweed possibility, or things are REALLY going to be interesting.

To the above - I'm guessing that's EXACTLY why he was cast.
I can't say his performance in HSM was anything above average... the cast [save for Lucas Grabeel, who stuck out as one of the gayest characters to be permitted on Disney by the laws of family-friendly-ness, and who honestly wasn't half bad] was pretty much mediocre and didn't have the best voices ever.
Let's hope he doesn't kill the role of Link.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like to think the main reason he was cast is because he auditioned and was the best man for the role. ^_^
The massive teen girl appeal is hardly a problem though. I mean, look at the character he'd be playing! :P
If that's even 100% true, that article. O_O

My main feeling, Weez, is that he may have been the best for the role of the ones they auditioned, but I still think it would have been fantastic to give the role to an unknown. This may sound slightly gay, but there's always a heartthrob that emerges in these movies that turns out to suddenly be huge -- why not give that chance to an unknown?
However, what I say doesn't work out because time only has so much flexibility with them finding a guy, so obviously they can't just look around forever until finding someone. Still, I only wish that an unknown could fill the shoes of Link, rather than someone who so many people have a preconceived notion of. :)
Viva la Link.
