So I'm sure everyone heard the news recently that Lin-Manuel is planning on recording a mixtape of songs from and "inspired by" Hamilton. I think this is a wonderful idea, one of the most appealing aspects to me being covers of the songs from the show. Who do you guys think Miranda will have on the album? Any out of the blue theater people (like Laura Bennati singing Burn, which is an idea I had) or any number of others? Or will he get huge stars since the show is a big hit? Others I thought of were Elton John singing You'll Be Back (which may be too on-the-nose) and Beyoncé singing Helpless / Satisfied (obviously it's sisters singing the two, but she'd be terrific singing either so I'd love to hear both). What do you all think this album will be like?
I think Janelle Monae would KILL "Satisfied." But, now that you mention it, Destiny's Child doing "The Schuyler Sisters" would be a huge coup.
I unfortunately don't know many current rappers, so I couldn't assign most of the numbers in the show because of that. Some people who would be terrific on the album would probably be the same ones mentioned for appearing in the show as celebrity replacements.

That's great news...I can hardly wait. I'm sure he'll have a good mixture of rappers, pop artists, other Broadway singers, etc.
I'm so looking forward to the Mixtape! I hope it has as a good a proportion of POC as the show does.
I would love to see some out of the box casting for this, someone who could create a whole new sound. For instance, I wouldn't want Destiny's Child (or any of those singers, separately) to do Helpless or Satisfied, because that's the sound Lin-Manuel was going for. I hope he mixes it up a bit. I have no doubt that he will!
Has anybody heard any updates on this? I know Miranda is being a bit tight-lipped on the whole project, but I'm just wondering if there are any confirmed artists/songs.
Last I heard they are aiming for something in January to coincide with an Alexander Hamilton milestone/anniversary.

I'm sorry, this isn't really what this thread is about, but these people singing a combination of Helpless and Always Be My Baby are fantastic! What if people on the mix tape did something like this?

I think it's safe to say Busta Rhymes will appear on this.
Looks like LMM has started to release some of the artists lined up for the album. Can't say I would have expected some of these.

Nothing crazy suggested in that interview. All makes sense. I can already imagine an incredible cover of "Dear Theodosia" by Regina Spektor and Ben Folds
Oh please, please, please let Ariana Grande be involved. She could get Helpless on the radio. OR BETTER YET - Say No To This. I would die to hear her sing that song.

That would need to be a duet. "Say No To This" featuring LL Cool J and Ariana?
Can anyone find a link to this Vanity Fair article that BWW is quoting? It's not sourced in the BWW article (this is my surprised face), and I can't find it on Vanity Fair's site, or via Google.

I can't find it either.
How embarrassing would it be if this wasn't true? I'd laugh.
the few names mentioned make total sense to me. it's strange that the interview isn't linked though.

No it's not. BWW never links anything.

Well, the article doesn't exist on Variety's website: http://variety.com/t/hamilton/. The last piece with the Hamilton tag was in mid-Feb.
Do they have exclusive stories & interviews published just for print? That would be surprising to me. Perhaps BWW made all of this up...
There's a piece in yesterday's WSJ (link below, but it's behind a paywall) about Hamilton Mixtape:
Sia, Usher, Chance the Rapper and Busta Rhymes, among other acts, are recording songs from the show, according to people familiar with the project.
eta: I was completely confused, and this is the release date line: "Mr. Miranda initially said the collection of “remixes & covers & inspired bys” was planned for early 2016, but apparently the project’s scale and talent list has grown, making a fall release more likely."
And that Jeffrey Seller would neither confirm nor deny anything. :)

I'm still looking for the Vanity Fair interview that BWW is quoting from.

I could see Sia doing Satisfied. I was hoping for Naya Rivera or Tamar Braxton on Satisfied though. I think Ariana should stay far away from this. You can never understand what she's saying and all she does is high belting.
