So far I've only done this twice --
BLOOD BROTHERS in London and WOMAN IN WHITE in NYC
(I was in the front row for WIW, so sleeping thru the 2nd half seemed like a ruder option than leaving)
I don't think that leaving quietly at intermission is especially rude. And in both London and NYC there are a MILLION more wonderful things to do than sit thru another hour of something you just can't stand

I ran, not walked, out of Contact
Only once on Broadway. It was "Flamenco Purro" back in the '80s. After "Tango Argentina" did well, they put this one up on the boards.
But an hour and 20 minutes into the first act "dance recital" of fairly similar flamenco numbers, we'd had enough so we left. Impressive, but mind-numbingly repetitious. At least our tickets were free. It was the only time I saw a show in the gorgeous Mark Hellinger Theatre.
We ended up second-acting Big River that night to catch our friend Marin Mazzie in it again. We'd already seen her, but hey we had Playbills in our hands and the night was young! I also remember that night at Big River was a special performance for the hearing impaired. They had people signing, in costumes, next to the actors on the stage! I'm really glad we saw it, and when they did the revival a few years ago, I kept thinking, "well, I've kinda already seen this" with the original production.
I was extremely tempted to during My Fair Lady's current tour. The show was sooo long and now i wish i had, because the second act was nothing special.

My friend and I left Cymbeline at intermission. Luckily she had gotten us comped tix from somewhere so we didn't waste our money. But damn, I would have left no matter what.
mmhhmm... high school musical put on my a local theatre... i only went there in the first place cause someone had free tix for me
My ex and I really wanted to leave Lion King at intermission, alas, my parents were with us and they had bought the tickets. It was miserable. I suppose after all the hype, I was very letdown...I was almost jealous my brother was out in the lobby on his Blackberry (normally, that would have ticked me off). And having to feign liking it for my folks was most painful as well, even though I don't think I veiled my dislike of it well at all!

I REALLY wanted to leave The Lion King as well, but I was there with my mom and my sister.
I also wanted to leave All Shook Up, but I had to see it for a class assignment. Yargh.
i would have left during The Lion King too if i wasn't with 6 other people.

Oh, I forgot: walked out at intermission of London's BLOOD BROTHERS.
The closest I've ever come to walking out was during the most recent tour of Starlight Express.(The one with the 3d movies). My friends and I decided to stay for the camp factor, and ended up having a great time(no thanks to the show)
I've left a few community theater shows when I was younger. Now I don't leave, I have hope for the second act. If it's really bad it makes for an enjoyable evening for a different reason, a good laugh. Plus not seeing community theater anymore helps.
I have wanted to leave at various productions but I never have, and do not think I ever will because I am one of those people always hoping it will get better in the second half, and often it actually does. And even if it doesn't at least the second act is usually shorter.
The only show I regret not walking out of is a regional production of The Trials of Oscar Wilde. That play was a snooze fest, and the second act was worse than the first.
I walked out of Starlight Express in London (hated it)
Same with Grease (london), Love Shack (UK tour), Godspel (uk)
and wish i would have left during Jekyll and Hyde UK tour but decided to watch the rest of the car crash, over 300 people did leave during the interval though
I wish I had walked out of The Fantasticks. While Act One was only okay, the second act was horrendous. I probably wouldn't hate the show so much if I hadn't known what happened in act two.

Shows I WISH I'd left:
Rent (sorry...despised it)
Brooklyn
Jekyll and Hyde
Chitty Chitty
Phantom
I'm sure there are others. Life is too short.
Reading all these "I wanted to leave...but I was with someone who wanted to stay" posts reminds me of why I usually go to the theatre alone.
If I wouldn't have paid full price to see the incredible disaster that is GREASE, I would have left BEFORE intermission.
It was absolutely painful.
Sometimes tempted to, but didn't.
I've wanted to leave a couple of regional/school productions but I haven't. I've never left a Broadway show.

Many of the shows people reported leaving or wanting to leave are ones I would never have purchased tickets for. When my mind is made up to see a show, I'll usually follow through.
