Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

I was just listening to Aida and thought that she could do her Broadway comeback as the new Elpheba. What do you think about it ?
In my heart, I found the answered dream, and in my soul I found the song, and in my friends I found the magic, the love, the moon up above- they were mine, all mine, all along..!

I don't think she'll be making a Broadway comeback anytime soon...

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Personally, I see her as more of a Dr. Dillamond. re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Why? Elphaba is not the be-all end-all of female roles. She is a brilliant singer/actress and a TONY winner...it's not time for her to return to Broadway and recreate a role that has been created and re-created already. She should return in an original work that suits her.

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Headley doesn't have the high notes for Elphaba.

I don't see her as Elphaba. I don't hear her as Elphaba! I don't think her voice could handle it.

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Does anyone know what she's up to? Last time I checked her website was down.

Can anyone give me discography of her work? I would love to find a CD I don't have, featuring her. I love getting some good Headley.

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Margo, she belted a high F at the end of "Dance of the Robe" for eight shows a week. Elphaba doesn't go higher than that.

FOAnatic - couldn't have said it better myself!!

If she were to do another production, only an original work would do that talent justice. Or a complete re-interpretation of a pre-existing work. NOT a re-creation of a work.

I hope there is a 10th Anniversary AIDA Concert, and I hope she does it with Adam and Sherie.

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Perhaps I should have been clearer. Her voice naturally sits in a low mezzo range. Yes, she can belt a single high note, but the tessitura of Elphaba stays high consistently and would eat her alive.

Witness her disastrous performance as Lorrell (another high-lying killer role) in the Dreamgirls concert. "Ain't No Party" has a ton of E-flats and Fs (and one G) and is so unrelentingly high that she TOTALLY fell apart doing it. It was an embarassment live (I was there - she was so bad that she had to re-record it for the CD and it still sounds terrible). If she couldn't do Lorrell, then there's no way she could pull off Elphaba eight times a week -- or even once, frankly.

I would love to see her as Elphaba. I`ll ask her if she has the voice.

re: Heather Headley as Elpheba ?

Margo..I totally agree...
Heather does sound terrible doing "Ain't No Party", and if she sounds terrible doing that, there's no way she could sing Elphie night after night...unless they pull a Toni Braxton and bring it down a few octaves...

Now, Loretta Devine could sing the part of Elphaba...
Ooh, and Lillias White would do an amazing rendition of The Wizard and I...but Headley?? I don't think so

"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I would express my opinion about Ms. Headly, but what I would say has already been said. So, I'll just say, "NO, no, no, no, no, no...no."

I love in the commentary of Urban Legend part 2, how the director told her she had to punch someone, and said she was reluctant due to the "too nice" factor.
I would SO LOVE to be Loretta's friend...
Does she reside out here in LA?

re: Heather Headley as Elphaba ?

***Spoiler Alert***

Loretta Devine is one of the most unexpectedly brilliant (and unsung) actors in "Crash". When you see her size up Matt Dillon, give a soul-sister shoulder shake, and say "Send him in", you're rooting for her all the way--you want her to teach that racist scum a lesson. By the end of the next scene, you've realized she's a self-righteous bitch. It's a devastating demonstration of how racism (and its effects) can go in unexpected directions.
