Heather Headley to take over for J.Hud in THE COLOR PURPLE — Page 2

Could this be a temp replacement? Like someone said she could be filming a movie and could be done by middle or late July.

^ I think it's temp. I think her run is limited and for the summer only.

Guess I better hightail it over to the Jacobs this month.

Heather Headley, a "screecher"??? Honey, you need to get your ears checked. It's fine if you're not a fan but to suggest that she screeches, screlts or screams is just not accurate. She actually has fantastic technique and a really healthy voice, given her propensity to belt.

Thank you! Please have them post when they find anything she's ever screeched!

Happy I got to see JHud this past week!
Posted: 4/7/16 at 5:48pm
Wow! That's really exciting! I hope she is great in the role!
Was JHud's end date already known? Seems odd to go before the Tonys when she has such a good shot at being nominated?

I think BroadwayConcierge is referencing when you posted this quote: "She is absolutely not taking over for Audra". Who are you quoting? Someone from Shuffle Along?

Hudson's needs a break from the stage?? I hope she didn't say this out loud to any Broadway producers, it would hurt her chances to get back on the stage if she's already bored with the part/show after 3-4 months.

I'm pretty sure it was always going to be a limited contract for Jhud.
While I'm glad I'll be catching her, I would have been perfectly happily with Beasley, too.

Crap. I'm missing her by 10 days. Although I like Heather I really wanted to see the original cast.

Double crap.

I paraphrased it, but I did not say she was bored of it. She was being extremely respectful and aware of her own limitations as a performer.
This was what she said - "I wanted to learn first. I'm not the kind of person who comes in and goes oh I know everything. Nope. I wanted to come here, to Broadway, and just learn about this craft. Learn about this art form. This has given me great experience. But you know now I want to stop back, look at it, and then come back again one day."

Seeing J. Hud on the Idol finale tonight added to my disappointment, but I have no problem with Ms. Headley.

What are you talking about? She will have played Shug for 6 months when her run is over, and to understand that she needs a break from doing a show 8 times a week shows a lot of self-awareness as a performer. Broadway producers will be continue to pursue her after the reviews she got and the performance she delivered, not to mention the fact her attendance record has been flawless. No need to make drama where there is none.
I am bummed out she did not extend at least another month for selfish reasons since I was planning on going back to NYC in June for my birthday to treat myself to see the three principals a second time. Headley has her work cut out for her, but she's a stellar performer. There was just something so special and touching about the chemistry Erivo and Hudson developed.

Gypsy explained what I was confused about, BroadwayStar2! (And thanks, Gypsy!)

She (J Hud) did a short film with Tyrese that is supposed to be turning into a TV show. Perhaps she'll be filming that.

You COULD care less? So you do care then...

i think he/she said that because you said it sounded like screeching, but that can be scientifically proven. it's not a subjective opinion. saying you don't like her tone or how she sounds is one thing... saying she's screehing (translation: SCREAMING) is only true if she's literally screaming through an entire show. not singing. is there video of her screeching and screaming in a musical?

Here is a dumb question. I don't watch American Idol. Did Jennifer Hudson perform live last night? So, can I assume she missed some shows this week?

One article I read said it was pre-taped

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that she is doing hairspray live after she leaves the color purple

Headley sounded like a bag of cats in The Bodyguard. Out of tune throughout. Plus her attendance record was infamous.. That's why lots of producers won't touch her anymore.
