See him? Aren't you just outside of NYC in NJ? You had your chance...
Wow. Well. Suddenly my tickets for September 12th were a better idea then I originally thought when I got them a month and a half ago.
I had like 3 chances to see him which were spend seeing other shows that I needed to see before closing like cabaret and honeymoon and another one

Honeymoon instead of JCM? That one would haunt a sane person for a long time... I mean, don't worry, you'll be fine.
Well he said he would return to the role and would do it on tour sooo guess what, I will see him someday
I have never been this upset in all my years of going to Broadway (except when Rocky closed after four brilliant months on Broadway). I apologize for the nerves that I displayed in the Next Hedwig? thread; however, I just had a deep, dark, sinking feeling that Taye Diggs would run this show into the ground. Seriously I have never witnessed a Broadway performer as unprepared and unmotivated as he was. He ruined the best show on Broadway that I have ever seen. I am HEARTBROKEN. I wish JCM could come back for the final week of performance and close out the show on the high note it deserves. I am seriously about to cry. Hedwig changed my life, and to see it close early is devastating, to say the least. I promise to be on better behavior moving forward, but right now, my heart ... it's broken. Sometimes, Broadway can truly be a Wicked Little Town. But still, I will Lift Up My Hands like a true Hedhead and crank up my Midnight Radio.
LOVE YOU HEDWIG AND JCM! ALWAYS AND FOREVER,

Yep, he killed the show. He can act but he was never a good singer and clearly didn't embrace the fans like all of the other Hedwigs did. Just because you are beautiful and can act, doesn't mean you can headline a musical on Broadway and have it be successful.
Bye.

I have to imagine it has just as much to do with their inability to find a good replacement for after Taye...
A lot of folks, myself included, weren't sure a show like this wouldn't last without Neil to bring in the "I don't know what it's about but I love Neil" crowd. I think lasting a full year - and five more Hedwigs - after Neil is something to celebrate. They had a fantastic run that will mean a new life for the property and hopefully some major engagagments in the future. West End, perhaps?
Pippin and Hedwig are both Tony winning revivals. With horrible closing cast leads..
Even if it was due to the inability to find a replacement why end it earlier than it was supposed to run?
I think his inability to sell tickets is the problem here.

Didn't poor Taye get a Hedwig tattoo?
It could have been the shuberts kicking em to the curb too
I got to see JCM as Hedwig 8 times, including his first and last shows from second row orchestra aisle, and one very raunchy, very "Downtown" carwash... and on JCM's last show, he purposefully walked four steps out of his way to hand me the sheet music (when he usually tossed it into the crowd dismissively), and during one of the "I put on some makeup"s, he looked directly at me, pointed to me, and put his hand on his heart...
I honestly can't expect anything more out of this run, really.
Dr. Seuss said it all: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

I doubt he said he would tour, and the most he said definitively is he wouldn't say he wouldn't do it again, like he did last time. You may be waiting a long-ass time for this...

Yeah, the inability to find another actor is really stretching it. I sincerely doubt that was the case. The case was that he sucks and couldn't remember the material.

I really wanted to see Hedwig and as a young theater fan, I can only hope that I will be able to see it in my lifetime. Are the odds good that they actually launch a tour or will it be a select city, mini tour?
I feel like the only reason they got taye was so that they got just get a black guy in the role. There were many other people who would have done it and done it well

There is a tour. It is launching in SF, but I don't think they announced any other dates yet, or a Hedwig.
I saw Neil's second to last show and he was HILARIOUS. I think he did the comedy better than the drama. That's why I wanted to see JCM but I'm sure I'll see him at some point
SHNSF hasn't even announced a venue yet. Just that it's Oct. 6-14.

It apparently kicks off in SanFran in October 2016. No info on who plays Hewig or anything though.

Oh, late 2016? Yeah, that can all crumble yet... I thought it was much sooner.
I guess this makes the Tits of Clay gig, already announced for that night, the official send-off party for the show?
