Hell's Kitchen has Shubert theatre

It hasn't been announced to the public yet - but cast has been told they are going to BROADWAY

I wasn't the biggest fan of this jukebox show, but never underestimate the power of Alicia Key's fanbase.....

I mean… the Barrymore and or Schoenfeld COULD be empty this come spring

The Notebook is taking the Schoenfeld in the Spring. If Harmony doesn't do well, then maybe put it in the Barrymore.

Perhaps, A Beautiful Noise announces closing and Hells Kitchen takes the Broadhurst.

The difference in stage size is a matter of inches for the Shubert compared to something like the Music Box or Schoenfeld (at least for what the audience sees).

The current staging is not that large, it can't physically be in the Newman, but I can easily see how it will scale as it's a lot of scaffolding and projections. If they're taking the Shubert, they'll need to add on considerably, particularly vertically, but the basic design will work fine.

That said, with these reviews (and my own experience of the show), I just don't know why they'd transfer immediately. They've got enough brand to open in the fall after they've done some work, and things will then be much calmer. Half of this season's new musicals will have closed, and they'll have a much clearer lane to the Tonys as it's extremely unlikely next season will have nearly as many openings. Hopefully, they'd have a better show as well!

The main difference for the Shubert is the available wing space that the other houses mentioned don't have as much of. This doesn't feel like a show that would require that much wing space. It's not Hello Dolly, for instance.

Does seem like a better economical choice would be to keep a tighter ticket which proved successful at The Public, but I'd agree this and The Notebook are really the only new musicals coming in with any level of familiarity with the material, so they're better primed than others that are starting in the Spring.

Is OLD FRIENDS actually coming in? There were previously rumors (on here) that Wonderful World was also coming to Broadway but not a peep since Chicago.

I have friends in the UK that have heard that Old Friends is indeed coming in the Spring with Bernadette and Lea along with an all-American cast.

There's a lot of people in this biz who believe "if you can sell out 1,000 tix a night (in a smaller playhouse), you should be able to sell out 1400 tix a night (in the Shubert or Imperial)." The issue is budgeting: it's hard to make the numbers work for a decent-sized musical when there are 1000 seats or less. And a smaller house makes things more manageable if a show ISN'T selling out.

The divide is much greater when comparing a 1700 seat house (like the St. James) to a 1000 seat house (like Studio 54), which are really apples & oranges. I think a lot of producers would like a few more houses in the Nederlander/August Wilson/Richard Rodgers size range (1200-1400 seats).
