Hello Dolly or Once on this island?

If you haven't seen Dolly yet, Dolly for sure.

OOTI is wonderful, but this production of Dolly is on another level and should not be missed.

Dolly is incredible with Bernadette. BUT, Once On This Island is incredible too, and that production will never be able to be replicated outside of Circle in the Square, so I'd go with that one. And the performances by that ensemble really are outstanding. Dolly will tour, albeit with a different cast, pretty much in the same form and with the same direction/choreography/staging it has now, so you could catch that later and get a really similar experience.

I agree with greens. While I love this Dolly (and Bernadette is wonderful), you won’t see this production of Once On This Island outside of NYC. Both shows are going to tour, but they will have to rethink this production of OOTI to fit touring houses while Dolly will probably be very similar to what’s playing now.

Dolly! But I don't think you can make a wrong choice.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

There is no wrong answer here (having seen both twice a piece), but if you can only pick one, go with Dolly. There's no better time to see such a lush production than with Bernadette Peters; her chemistry with Victor Garber has been perfected, and the supporting cast is stunningly good.

If you are more interested in innovative, immersive theatre, see OOTI. Having seen both, I'd say Dolly is a sure bet. OOTI is very unique, and I appreciated the staging more than the story. I loved both. Dolly gets the slight edge for me though.
