"What was absurdist about CRIMES OF THE HEART?"
One sister shoots her husband in the stomach and then offers him a glass of lemonade. Then she tries to gas herself, bangs her head on the oven and knocks herself out
One sister goes nuts and stuffs all her jewelry in a charity donation box
The mother hangs herself and her cat alongside her
It always struck me as more of a farce...
The Marraige of Bette and Boo. It's a really dark dark comedy but its hilarious.
I would go for a play that is not produced very often. Stay away from the old stalwarts like NOISES OFF or LEND ME A TENOR. Find something unique. Put your own spin on it. May I reiterate AUNT DAN AND LEMON?

It's a one-act, but THE ACTOR'S NIGHTMARE.
There's also MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940.
That's all I can think of right now.
You Can't Take It With You!! SOooooo goood!
