I'm a big fan of modern-genre Broadway and I'm looking for my next fix.
The musical style I like is more pop/rock.
My favorite musicals are:
1. Les Mis (the greatest entertainment ever composed)
2. Miss Saigon
3. Rent
4. Wicked
5. Aida
Would someone please suggest a more recent show that I should give a listen?
Thanks!
To start:
Brigadoon
My Fair Lady
Camelot
Cabaret
Man of La Mancha
Wonderful Town

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have listened to most of the musicals listed, such as South Pacific, Joseph, Guys and Dolls, Phantom, etc., and while they're all classic and beautiful, they're not the kind that grab me and won't let go like the ones I listed.
Thanks lvsong, Overkill and others for the more modern suggestions. I'll certainly go off your lists for my next gluttony.
I was a little surprised no-one listed The Color Purple. I omitted it mistakenly from my list as another I love.
I am curious about Jersey Boys and In the Heights. Are they two to consider also?
Thanks again!
Spiderman. Turn off the Iron. Wilbur could you please check?
I never got hooked by my Jersey Boys recording. I don't have the ITH recording, but after seeing it again recently, I could see myself listening to it a lot. My 2 standards for going back and forth to work are Next to Normal and American Idiot. Lately also hooked on Scott Alan's cds.
In the Heights
Spring Awakening
Whisper House (I listen to that a lot)
The Last Five Years
Songs for a New World
Bat Boy
Zanna, Don't!
Stephin Merritt's Coraline
Brooklyn
Taboo
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The Wedding Singer
The Great American Trailer Park Musical (it's as country as Shania Twain's crossover albums)
And, if you're willing to include films:
Repo: The Genetic Opera (the score is far stronger than the film)
