Judas--Thanks for clarifying about the song Gold. I have the Once soundtrack but haven't listened to it recently. The Moon is on the first album by the Swell Season.
I don't recall hearing the song Once on Friday night but I will be seeing the show again in late December and will listen more closely.
I hope they list the song order in the program at some point.
'Once' the song isn't in the show in full, but sections of it are played as interludes spaced throughout the show.
Gee, Growl, why would you ever get the idea that I'd be interested at all in pretty, little average love story? I would likely dislike that quite intensely to be honest with you.
I like my theater with a bit of edge and to give me something to think about. Pretty packages belong under a christmas tree.

This musical could hardly be described as "pretty packages under a Christmas tree."
Yes, that's my point. Growl on page 1 suggested I wouldn't like this because it wasn't all flowery and cutesy. Which is odd since he's never met me.
Well I've met you and cutsey and flowery are the first things that come to mind when I think of you.
I really am hoping for a Broadway transfer. I don't think I'm going to be able to get in to see this before it closes. The movie was such perfection, I am so happy to hear good things about the show.
I'm sorry, mama. I didn't mean you in particular. I was only re-iterating a point made earlier in the thread, illustrating a larger idea. Reality is so unpleasant. Do we really need to see it onstage? It wasn't personal.

i don't really think the plot presented an unpleasant reality, though: a bittersweet one ... tough choices ... some raw emotions ... but also a touch of hope and even redemption.

Need some help!
With all the excitement on this board about Once, I am tempted to buy the movie soundtrack and warm-up to the music before my performance date at the end of December.
Is this a good idea, or is it better to go in cold?

There was a story on NPR this morning about the show, and they played clips from the show (Falling Slowly and If You Want Me).
'Once' And Again: A Love Story Gets A Second Life
Wendilin -- YOU are a brat. And I have at least 100 people to disagree with you. In fact those words haven't been used to describe me since the dark ages!
Growl -- no prob. The extention MIGHT do me good....I can't plan this far out. (Sounds crazy, I know.)
Umm... okay, the entire extension sold out already?! My God, I thought I'd at least have a day or two to purchase. Guess I'm waiting for the transfer, too, now. Holy wow.
But the tix for b'way are ALREADY on sale! How did that happen so fast? Wow, good for them!
Maybe I can my HS into choosing these to replace Bonnie and Clyde. Any thoughts on HS kids enjoying this? My kids are pretty sophisticated as a whole.
Not that this helps you directly, but if the movie "Once" had come out when I was in high school, I would have loved it as much then as I loved it just a few years ago. I'm quite certain of that. So, in my opinion, the material not at all out of the realm of enjoyment for teens, especially mature teens.
dramamama- I have an unabashed love for this show, so taking that into consideration, I would imagine high schoolers loving this show. I think they would connect to both the story and the music.
The movie came out my senior year of high school and I loved it. Definitely take your kids to see the show, it'll be one of the best things they'll ever see and it's different than what their idea of a conventional musical probably which and that's great.

WOW. Just got back from seeing today's matinee and would just like to echo what pretty much everyone else is saying. This is a beautiful and unique piece of theatre. My brothers and I went in with a deep adoration for Glen, Marketa, and the film, very wary of whether or not it could be pulled off as a stage show and with other actors in those two roles. Ever since I first heard about the project a couple years ago (?), I have been a bit skeptical. We were floored. Cristin Milioti (who, by the way, does plenty of smiling...haha) in particular was phenomenal, but the entire cast, the music, the movement, everything was just beautiful. As soon as it ended one of my brothers said "Well. That was the best show I have seen in this town. Usually I can find aspects of the show to dislike, but I just can't with this." And we all agreed on that. I would see it again in a heartbeat, and definitely plan to see it again.
That said, I am wary of it moving to Broadway and getting lost in a big Broadway house (similar to what happened with [title of show]. Hopefully it will be able to make the transition successfully, and I will definitely be checking it out again when it moves.
Thanks for all the responses to my HS question -- we just got confirmation of group tix for my HS kids. Lucky me, plans to make it into the city 1/7 just fell into place and a friend had an extra ticket to the matinee! Very psyched, can't wait!

Enjoy!! As I mentioned, I would see it again in a heartbeat. Thought about it the entire 3 hour drive home.
Saw it last night.
I have never seen the film.
A month ago my friend Marc - who is usually very stinting in praise of any show - called me from the street. "I just saw ONCE. As soon as we hang up, you are going to buy a ticket. You will thank me for this."
Well, OK. If you say so, Marc.
It was nearly impossible to score a ticket, but I did for last night. Whenever I know I am seeing a show I purposely read no reviews (I avoided this thread as well) I did hear that Brantley was a bit "ehhh".
I went in cold.
This morning, I called Marc and thanked him.
I'm still processing it, but it was pretty much heaven. It's the most refreshing and touching show I have seen in a very long time..one that for various reasons is the perfect show for me to see at this moment in my life. Perfectly crafted and performed.

My other thread on this got buried.
I saw this last weekend and thought it was STUNNING. I am already jonesin' to see it again. There have certainly been other shows I've WANTED to see again, but this is more like a NEED to see it.
I literally had to keep reminding myself to breathe. (Yes, literally...I found I kept holding my breath in anticipation of the next moment.)
The story is a simple one, but the show is all about the heart, the emotion, and the music. And wow....how it brings them home.
I cannot point to ANY thing and think that it could/should be different. I will be incredibly saddened if they even re-cast a single role. (Although it sounds as if that's not a problem, and that they are only looking for swings/understudies.)
I have tix for the end of March...not sure if I can actually wait that long.
So, what are the odds this will be avail @ the TKTS booth early in March? I could go to one of the 1st previews but am not sure I want to invest $100+ for ticket if I think I can get it cheaper.
No, not frugal just cheap!
