Quick. You just mentioned a musical, and someone asked you what it's about. How do you describe it it a sentence?

It's funny, because half of my favorite musicals are plotless. The one that I was shock people with is

"Oh, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it's about sexual freedom"
?????????

"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas."

Well it's really hard to describe RENT, because people are always like "Oh the one about AIDS?" But I describe Urinetown usually as "brilliant satire of Broadway musicals." When I describe Hair, I usually describe more how it makes me feel then what it's more literally about.

I do the same with HAIR, claud. I usually describe it as a 60's musical about the young people starting their own revolution.

Just some guy, who got mad at another guy for calling him a Communist, decided to take out his fustrations at Hollywood by making a musical with his political views overshadowing the whole production. Oh and the musical has people with no life, puppets, and a magic Genie!!!!! And this is no Avenue Q.

For intelligent people: it's about an overbearing mother who forces her daughters into showbiz. One leaves and the other becomes a worldfamous stripper.

Abridged Version: it's about a stripper.

"It's about a man who gets trapped in a cave and dies."

"It's about murder, cannibalism, and vengeance."

"It's about assassination attempts on various US presidents."

I just like to boil it down to the simplest sentence that makes it sound least like "and everyone sings because they're in love, and the whole town knows the choreography, and there's jazzhands, and happy endings". I don't like to encourage people's uneducated views on what makes a musical.

I always have to do this "it's about a black maid in Louisiana who works for a Jewish family" and I get blank stares, then I add "but there's singing appliances" and they get excited because they think it's just like BEAUTY & THE BEAST.

Lol to both GYPSY references (the screaming woman and the stripper) and the brief description of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA by Jordan was hilarious.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

How does one describe August: Osage County to someone? I never know what to say when people ask me because there's just so much that goes on, haha.

"It's a reversal world where everyone's gay and it's frowned upon to be straight, and there's a magical matchmaker who can help people fall in love, and it's about what happens when a girl and a guy fall for each other...IT'S AWESOME, THE SONGS ARE INCREDIBLE."
