Nope...at current prices it has its chance to impress me. I have to admit though, there have only been a handful of shows that I've seen more than once anyway.

Too much out there to see to give a second chance to something that failed me. JMO

Actually, he's NOT the only OBC left. Frances Mercanti-Anthony is still in it as the Adult Women u/s.
Was there an "ensemble" at the Atlantic? I don't remember there being one. I thought that was added for Broadway, but I could be mistaken.

There was no ensemble at the Atlantic. That element was added on Broadway.

Gerard wasn't in the production at the Atlantic...they had 2 understudies who didn't move on with the show to Broadway.
Ah, that's what I thought. Thanks. Just like there is no ensemble on the cast recording.

Why do I feel like Gerard is going to be the Anthony Rapp of Spring Awakening?
Well Anthony did the workshop, the off-broadway production, the broadway show, did the show in LA and London, the movie, returned to the bway show, now is doing the national tour.

I feel like most of the other kids have really worked their bit of fame and gone on to do other shows/movies/albums whereas Gerard was in ensemble, moved up to lead and is rumored to be doing the tour once Blake leaves. It's still early but I find it odd that he has stuck with the same show and not moved on to other roles.

Gerard is actually involved in the early stages of a Green Day musical.
Wow, for real, Katie? A Green Day musical could be really great. I'm glad there will be another rock musical on Broadway. Any more info on it? Is it original songs or a jukebox?

I saw the new cast and thought some members of the current cast were better than the originals, and I loved some of the different takes on the characters. Hunter Parrish made the text so clear and was so in the moment that I understood meanings in a completely different way.

Why did it win the Tony? Because it deserved to.

I made a list of reasons why I thought Spring Awakening was the worst musical I'd ever seen. I need to find it.
Ooops...sorry about the Gerard/Atlantic days...of course, you are all right.

And Frances, too. Again, my bad.

And yes, Gerard is supposedly going to the tour when/if Bashoff leaves...that was set up long before the closing. (Doesn't mean it couldnt change though.)

And being in the 'early workings' of something doesn't mean that
1. it will come to fruition
2. that the same actors will stay with it the whole time.

And while I don't wish Gerard ill, his physicality is going to make him hard to cast.

I don't know, dramamamma. His physicality also makes him unique and helps him to differentiate himself. Look at Chris Fitzgerald. He works all the time.

All I know about the Green Day musical is that it's based on their American Idiot album.
And the thread just keeps going and going and going...

the Green Day musical is old news... they've been working on it for the last 3 years.

I forget what the main plot is but I know it's going to be in the same style of the Who's TOMMY. Basically, a structured rock concert (with some of their radio stuff AND new original stuff).

I forget who was attatched to write the book. They announced it a while ago. Things could have changed since then, though.

Winter, I don't think you can really compare Gerard to Anthony. Rent is a different animal anyway. It was something Anthony was tied to personally, working closely with the creator, working through his death, living out the legacy of the show. Gerard was only part of the original Broadway cast, which was assembled only a couple of years ago. Yes, he's the last of the original kids, but what of it? I think Gerard likes that it's a steady paycheck. And if there's nothing on the horizon for him just yet, why complain about being employed at a tough time for Broadway/theatre?

He's in negotiations to replace Blake on tour. I talked to him at SD once. He said "Well, I called my agent today and said 'Let's make this happen. When do we find out for sure?' So... hopefully!"
It's obvious why it won the Tony's. The design is amazing, the score is not the best, but good nonetheless, and overall it is one of the most original fresh shows broadway has seen in a long time. It dares to be different, very much like RENT when it first opened. Personally I will never understand how it won for best choreography...but still, I can see why it won, even if it isn't one of the best shows out there.
Just for future reference, asking such a controversial question about a show with a HUGE fan base is not going to make friends for you on the board.

To ask how it won "A Tony" in itself is ignorant, because we do not know which of its 8 Tonys you are talking about...but anyway, I myself did not love the show, but that doesn't mean i don't think it should have won the Tony for best musical. You will find millions of people asking "How did_______(insert RENT, Avenue Q, Jersey Boys, etc. here) win the Tony for best musical?" and someone will ALWAYS disagree, get offended, you know the deal.

"I love how new posters love to come on here and act like their poop doesn't stink, like they are number one. It ticks me off."

You know, that really grinds my gears. :)

I am also one who saw the original cast and wondered how the show managed to garner so many Tonys. I found the score mediocre at best and agree that the songs with the profanities were just put there for the edge and shock value.
Perhaps I am not the audience the show is aimed at, but it definitely is something I do not recommend to friends asking about shows to see.

I saw Spring Awakening on the final preview night at the Atlantic. Quite an electric night as they had found out that the show was going to have a life past the Atlantic and everyone was excited. The show knocked my socks off. I have not seen it on Broadway. I avoided it because I really could not see it in a bigger house. In my opinion, it should have stayed off broadway in a smaller house. I know people who saw the original cast on Broadway and raved about it. It is coming here on tour and as much as I would like to see it again, I don't think I will as it will be playing in a huge theater and I am afraid it will lose something. I will just keep my memories of that night at the Atlantic. It stands out as one of the most exhilerating nights at the theater that I have had. As far as the Tony awards, I don't think it deserved the choreography award. The choreography was quite fine, but nothing compared to the other shows up for the award. I saw the show with my best friend and we commented on the choreography after the show and found it to be more "movement" than dancing/choreography. I think the show may have had a longer life off-Broadway.
My two cents: Very little competition.
