How hard is it to get book on CBS SUNDAY MORNING?

I loved this morning shows - especially the segments on Neil Diamond and Shucked.

I'm told this is the #1 most important show when it comes to theatre. More impactful than GMA or The Today Show.

How difficult is it to get booked?

Logically, I would postulate that it depends on what else they have booked/what they're planning, and how hard a show's press team works to get them on it - same as any show.

For example, many morning shows are doing theater highlights from now through June leading up to the Tonys, so it may be easier to be featured on the show than in October when there might be a lot of political content leading up to an election. These shows follow news cycles.

All that said - only a press person who does this would be able to tell us how CBS Sunday Morning compares to other morning shows.

Apparently, CBS's standards are now basically gutter-level, so any sort of trash will do.

This will be the second time "A Beautiful Noise" is featured on the show. The segment is about Diamond himself but he talks about the show and clips are shown.

I've heard many times that it is the most coveted TV show to get booked on. And hence the most difficult to land. Noteworthy that SLIH had a boost at the box office the week after their appearance.

Yes, it is extremely difficult. Perhaps the only more coveted news show is 60 Minutes, which is even more rare in its coverage of Broadway.

Every producer & press rep courts CBS Sunday Morning. CBS dangles opportunities in front of people, and sometimes even film segments that go un-aired or get pushed for more timely things (or the footage eventually gets used years or months down the line for something else). CBS has the upper hand 9 times out of 10 and can do what they want.

It's a matter of relationships with the CBS producers and the press agent, and finding a good angle for the story. Someone like Neil Diamond is going to be appealing to CBS because he is so well known, but also has Parkinson's; there's a narrative from multiple angles there.

Non-scientifically, it seems like Broadway is being featured more these days than pre-pandemic?

Yes, I have noticed a bit more coverage also on local news. I really like News 4's coverage. Their on-air people seem to love theater. Unlike some other stations, they actually let you know that they have actually seen shows and I love when they quote lines from shows coming out of a theater piece into another story or segment. The Pix 11 crew also feature theater and attend shows.

Yes! I've noticed that too. And today there were two Broadway-related stories.

I think there was a *lot* of buzz during the pandemic about the loss of live theatre. Something most Americans are aware is always happening but rarely think about. So it's led to a profile boost for Broadway post-pandemic.

The answer is more complicated although none of what's been said here is wrong. The biggest driver here (especially from now going forward) is that CBS has this little show they do once a year called the Tonys so these segments are in the nature of semi-soft promotion for that.

No show has ever been featured primarily on CBS SUNDAY MORNING. They have a subject to angle the profile which they then slap in the coverage of the show.  Beanie Feldstein was the profile that covered their section on the revival of FUNNY GIRL (also Julie Benko months later).  Neil Diamond and his Parkinson’s led to the section on A BEAUTIFUL NOISE.

I don't know about CBS SUNDAY MORNING but I do know it was pretty easy to book someone on GMA.

A friend of mine had written a book and was looking to promote it. I made a single call to GMA and two days later he was on the air blabbing about his book. His appearance on the show gave a significant bump to its sales, too.
