Hugh Jackman in Barnum.

I think it needs to happen. This could be such a good revival.

Hugh Jackman in Barnum.

Wasn't his name attached to an original Barnum musical at one point?

Speaking of Barnum, the version done by the composer/lyricist team of Baker Street never saw the light of day.

It lists music by Mika

Who is Mika? Did this person write music & lyrics? Just curious

The funny thing is neither Jim Dale or Jackman resemble the real Barnum. Nathan Lane probably comes closer in size & stature.

That IMDB listing has not been updated and is completely inaccurate.

There is no BARNUM revival with Jackman happening, but yes... there is an original movie musical, based on P.T. Barnum's life with Jackman starring, currently in pre-production at 20th Century Fox.

Isn't Mika that guy that did the really awful cover of Popular with Ariana Grande a few years back?

Hugh Jackman in Barnum.

He had a huge glam-pop explosion a few years ago but has mostly fallen off the radar since.

Mika's music is very bubblegum and a bit catchy. I had the chance to attend his concert at the very beautiful United Palace on Broadway (on 176th Street). If you ever have a chance to attend his concert...DON'T. The audience was infested with rabid screaming squealing prepubescent and teenage girls. They completely made the entire concert totally unbearable.

And to squash any concerns, I can assure you that Mika is no longer attached to this project.

After they pushed it back last year, I thought this was filming late summer/fall this year after Jackman finishes the next Wolverine movie but now I've seen some info that it's starting this March? Anyone heard anything about that?

Were there any further details re the start of production? I did see it mentioned on one film site ( Production Weekly) that there seems to be some activity on the film project ( but no details unless one subscribes to the site).

Hugh introduced one song from the forthcoming movie in his recent Australian concert tour which was based on BACK ON BROADWAY. It is called THIS IS ME. Here's a clip of what an audience member recorded from that concert staging of the song --

His intro starts at around 40'50"

There's a super clip of Jim Dale performing the opening and title song and at the Tony's on line and if you haven't seen it, please do. One caveat: If the musical is revived it would need to happen before November.

After seeing the last revival of THE PAJAMA GAME and being impressed with how strong his voice was in person, I had hoped that Harry Connick Jr. would choose BARNUM as his next Broadway vehicle. Unfortunately he chose to do that disastrous revival of ON A CLEAR DAY...which was a disappointment for all concerned. I just hope that experience didn't sour him on ever doing another Broadway show again.

Pasek & Paul are writing the songs for the PT Barnum film with Hugh Jackman.

If you're not familiar with Mika, check out his music (which consists of FAR more than his pop adaptation of Popular). He's quite a musical genius and his vocal range is insane. Often compared to Freddie Mercury, he's rightly become a megastar in the UK and France. The US ignorance of his talent is mystifying, but it means he continues to play smaller venues across the US at crazy great prices.

If you ever have a chance to attend his concert...DON'T.

Seen him in concert 3 times in Chicago and loved every one of them. To attend a pop or rock concert of a young star and not expect screaming fans (especially tween girls) doesn't really make much sense.

A couple of his recent videos:

And my personal favorite:
