Crap, I'm sorry. I mistyped in my other post. I had written "neither gay nor female," and meant to say either "neither gay nor male," or that I was a straight female.

I'm straight and I'm a girl. But it's okay, lots of people mistake me. I get it all the time, and I definitely don't mind. I'm honored that so many people think I could be a gay man. re: I Just Saw a Community Production of COMPANY Tonight and...

Ahhhhhh! Now I see, because I was like "I just know I remember reading post about how sexy you thought Raul and/or Adam were' and stuff like that.

I did think you were a guy, but since you are a girl it all makes sense now!

Yikes. At least the design of the revival had enough sense to include the hardwood floor and a few other things to relieve the black. This looks like a production that takes place in someone's tony basement.

And the director should be reminded that lycra is not everyone's friend.

Tick tock is available through MTI. You just have to request it separately and they send it no problem.

^ I'm aware of that

BUT they used a very strange of amalgamation of Furth's book. It wasn't the Roundabout/Donmar version licensed by MTI. But it WAS licensed through MTI. So I am still very confused.

Well, as the guy who played Bobby in this production, thanks for the 'sexy' comment re: I Just Saw a Community Production of COMPANY Tonight and... I'll take that over 'he sucked' any day. And I won't get in to the other stuff bc/ I got knocked out at flag football tonight and am feeling very light headed, but the 'boob' grabbing was only during our lines not during the actual song, but was also probably overdone a bit bc/ I started trying to set up the laugh way to early where I remove my hands from them as she says the stories don't connect...so thats my bad!!! But again, I'm happy to be sexy to someone :) And if any of this post makes no sense, blame it on my head trauma

I actually saw this production this afternoon. I agree with a lot of what you said, although I didn't think it was quite the rip of the revival that you did. Also after seeing the production and clicking on your link, the pics make the set look a lot shabbier than it came off live and the actors also look a lot younger in the picture then they did on stage. (Although, I found out the guy who played Bobby was 22 after the show and was shocked because he played much older. The guy who played Peter
I heard was 19, and looked it so whoever made the college comment was kind of half right)
Overall, I liked the production. I thought the girl who played and Amy was just right, had great presence, and wonderful timing. I have to disagree on your Joanne comment, as I thought her playing it a little lighter then normal gave it a different level, which I liked very much. Bobby had a very strong, polished singing voice (though it sounded a bit tired at times this afternoon) and he clearly conveyed Bobby's emotional journey, esp the last 20 minutes, as well as any Bobby I have seen (Raul Esparza included, though no one can match that man's voice in my eyes). Also, the gentleman who played David cracked me up, he had the biggest, most animated eyes, they were great. The rest of the cast was solid, but those 4 were the standouts to me. The direction at times might have seemed a bit scattered and the script adds/cuts definitely left me scratching my head, but at the same time I thought that for the important moments, the director hit just the right notes with the blocking, lighting etc, and the similarities to the revival really didn't bother me, because I found the individual performances to be unique to what they were. Since I live in the area in NJ where the show took place, I was surprised at the level of talent they got to come out...its not always easy around here to find that many good performers. Then again, maybe I just love NJCT too much. Oh well!

^ I agree with some of what you said. The Bobby DID play older. But his voice wasn't completely up to par for the role, and he flubbed the lyrics in BEING ALIVE when I saw it. But I felt sorry for him, because he looked like he was going to sh*t himself after forgetting the lyrics.

I'm just HIGHLY critical of any community theater who performs one of my favorite shows.

I agree the Joanne was talented. BUT after LADIES the audience should be a little frightened, but her RISES were just too pretty. An actress playing Joanne needs to let it all go, and can't worry about singing every note in tune.

I'm still a little shocked at how corny the choreography was, especially in both act openings. TICK TOCK was good choreography, but would've been better with a dancer who could completely execute it.

Saturday night I saw my high school production of PIRATES OF PENZANCE, and I couldn't believe how much better I thought it was than Nena's COMPANY. We had a full orchestra that sounded amazing, opposed to that cheap small band who hit many wrong notes that played for COMPANY.

I guess I just expected more from Nena Productions. Some of of the pictures from their other productions look MUCH better than COMPANY.

ljay, did it have the pot scene in it? Because that's usually not in the MTI version.

The MTI script has the pot scene as far as I know. It's just different.

ljay889, it's most likely that they licensed the show from MTI, paid the royalties and all that, but made alterations to the script. Community theatres do that all the time. So while they did license the show from MTI they were not performing the show word for word as licensed. Which could maybe get them in trouble if someone reported it, if they didn’t get permission. Who knows. Maybe they did. Does that make sense?

It did have the pot scene, but didn't have the answering machine messages, and the homosexual experience scene.

And yes, Cats. Your explanation does make sense.
