Uh... Why?
broadwayworld.com: 'I Say A Little Prayer' Added to Score of PROMISES, PROMISES
I actually like the idea.. We'll see how it goes.
BIG mistake.
Miscasting and now fleshing out the score to make Kristin happy.
More likely fleshing out the score with sure-fire Bacharach hits to make the audience happy. Smart move, IMO. This show won't make it unless it appeals to a much wider group than the hard-core fans of the original production.

It worked for Anything Goes.
I don't have a problem with this at all, I actually predicted this would happen when Cheno was announced, (I didn't know it was added for the Anne Hathaway reading). Listen to the OBC, a lot of songs from the Bacharac/David canon would fit right into the score.
My question is, why does she sing it? The show is actually Baxter's story so he got the 11 O'Clock number, the title song,
Who is she saying the prayer for?
Vocally, I think she will kill it, but what is the point,
plot wise?
CurtainPullDowner, I couldn't have said it better myself!
The story says it has been added to Act One. Not sure where it would go, though.

My personal problem with it is I can't see *her* singing it.
That's an alto song, isn't it?
Awesome! Great song.

I've always wanted to see Promises, Promises, but this production is sounding less and less promising. I Say A Little Prayer is not a good fit for the story. There's that and the age of the stars. Can a musical work strictly as a star vehicle if the components of the story and casting go too far off base?
If added to Act One, she surely sings it to Sheldrake, as part of her delusional idea that he's going to leave his wife for her. It could be at the top of the Chinese restaurant scene, before he checks out and she must sing "Knowing When to Leave." But that might be crowded. I cannot recall a major Sheldrake/Fran crossover before that. In fact, when I later saw the national company (Anthony Teague, Melissa Hart), I think the audience gasped when she appeared as his mistress. The show plays a suspense line re who Sheldrake needs the apartmenht for, and the audience learns it's the girl Baxter has a crush on.
She wouldn't sing it to Chuck. She OUGHT to look in the mirror and sing it to herself. The character is quite the doormat. But if she sings it to Sheldrake, maybe she'll seem less pitiful.

I'm excited to se eKristin sing this. It's one of my favorite Dionne Warwick songs.
Lots of people who see the show are going to say, "I didn't know that song was from a Broadway Musical! Promises, Promises was the 2nd Broadway show I saw. My friend's father played the Doctor.
