Posted: 10/30/05 at 1:43amNo. The question of the show is the perspective of truth. What one character communicates as the truth is not necessarily the real truth - even if the character is understood.

I'm not speaking of the show's message but rather like, the inability of people to like, communicate with their friends. That was, like the point of the thread.

I'm attending a musical titled SEE WHAT I WANT TO SEE. Phrase it so there is no room for ambiguity."
-- you over estimate the intelligence of my midwest corn fed friends. Heck even my one gay friend hates musicals :)
I don't see what your friend hating musicals has to do with his ability to comprehend a sentence. Are you really friends with people who can't comprehend the sentence, "I'm attending a musical titled SEE WHAT I WANT TO SEE"?

Ummm .... you guys really cant take jokes can ya.
I'll have to remember that.
ok .... to clarify.
1) The likes were done on purpose, i thought it'd be amusing.
2) Yes if i told my friends the show was "titled See What I Wanna See" I am sure they would get it.
3) I still find it silly that i even have to a convo:
them> What show are you going to see on friday
me> See What I Wanna See
them> No what show
me> Thats the name of the show.
them> ohhhh
... ha ha ... he he ... learn to laugh folks :)

I'm directing 'Dentity Crisis right now which is a rather amusing play, but it has title issues. The idea is that "identity" is a verb that can be acted out in many different ways- but most people's reaction is "does that have something to do with teeth?"

"I'm going to See What I Wanna See."
"Um, okay... and what show would that be?"

Posted: 10/30/05 at 3:05pmI thought "Rashomon" was the title of only one of the 3 stories the show was based on. I think See What I Wanna See makes more sense for the overall meaning of the show, instead of just the first act.

It's weird when people post on a board just to insult other people about something irrelevant to their post. I mean, I've done my fair share of arguing here, but blatent hostility is really just uncalled for. We get it, you're smarter than the rest of us.

Not the name of a show, but when we first got my dog her name was Guess (she was a rescue dog) and so whenever we took her in public, some version of the following conversation would ensue:
"Oh what a cute dog, what's its name?"
"Guess"
"Um....I don't know what?"
"No, her name IS Guess."
We ended up changing her name after a nurse at the vets got sort of irritated because she thought we where playing mind games on her.

I don't think the show is based on Rashomon at all...maybe just the mood of that story.
The show is mainly based on In A Grove, Kesa & Morito, and The Dragon.
Rashomon is such a great story though, but hard to write into a musical...it involves the internal struggle of one character and the unfortunate outside help of another.
Of course, you could link the stories together, and make the main character of RASHOMON into the "thief" in IN A GROVE.
