I thought I was the only person who heard the screeching woman!! Oh God she's awful. It's like Elaine's "We loooooooooove youuuuuuu!" times ten, only not in character and not funny.
Funny to talk about "guilt" associated with this show.
The only time I saw this was just before the Tony award noms the year it came out. I loved it, listened to the soundtrack constantly, and never really had the desire to see it again.
I'm not sure how it fell out of favor with me personally....just that EVERYONE loved it? The bashing of the leads? Moving on to things that were truly better? Who knows.
I have finally decided that my own children were ready to see this (they've seen many shows on b'way) and we are going in April. My daughter (12) is already obsessed with the Cast Recording and is working on a few of the songs with her vocal coach. I'm actually wondering if I will get "sucked" back into the Wicked World, myself!
Time will tell!
If it bothers you so much write a letter to Wall Mart and Best Buy.
Oh, love, no need to argue. You can go buy your "soundtracks", but please, do it at WAL-MART, not Wall Mart (or you may be disappointed in their selection of musical theater soundtracks).
I always find it strange how people like to cite other people's lack of knowledge as an excuse for them not to make the effort. Once I knew there was a difference between a cast recording and a soundtrack, I made sure to use the correct terms so people would know what I was talking about. I wouldn't go "well, WalMart doesn't know the difference, so it obviously doesn't matter!". If it didn't matter, we wouldn't have two seperate terms in the first place. Plus, y'know, you're among theatre fans now. WalMart doesn't care about the difference. Theatre fans do.
Your argument is shoddy. D for effort, must try MUCH harder.
Certainly...when do we turn to Wal-mart OR Best Buy for education on ANYTHING yet alone musical theater?
Every choice they make is a financial one...didn't want to a: pay for two signs and B: devote a full section to each.
Is it THAT difficult?
Next time you ask some one for a kleenex you are getting a KLEENEX and not just a tissue. Same with saranwrap or reynolds wrap. Make sure you are not just getting plastic wrap or generic foil.
SNOBS.
No.
THERE'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Just get it right.
Cast Recording... not Soundtrack. How hard is it to do that

Am I the only one who doesn't really care about this soundtrack/cast recording business?
Seriously, WHO THE HELL CARES.
"Wicked is my favourite soundtrack. Along with the Legally Blonde soundtrack.
Sondheim is the worst composer ever. I love Wicked because the music is hummable. I don't have any of his soundtracks."
Wicked has a Soundtrack? When did the film come out? I enjoy Legally Blonde's Soundtrack but your love for it should probably be on the Off-Topic board.
I'm not a fan of the Sondheim Soundtracks either but I do enjoy his many Cast Recordings.

Oh, Bobby. I knew I could count on you.

You're one of few. People just want the proper term to be used....
who the hell cares that YOU don't care, Piraugra
bop!
Cast recording is not a brandname for a soundtrack. If you don't come up with some better arguments soon, you're going to flunk straight out of BWW. It's not snobbery; it's simply a desire to get things right. Would you apply your argument to other things?
"Hey all, I loved that banana!"
"Just so you know, it's actually an apple."
"OMG WHATEVER WHO CARES IT'S ALL FRUIT YOU'RE SUCH A FREAKIN' SNOB!"
"Am I the only one who doesn't really care about this soundtrack/cast recording business?
Seriously, WHO THE HELL CARES"
Serious collectors of the art form care.
Would you call Baseball Softball or a Cello a Guitar. Just because they're similar does not mean they're the same.

I'd like the term to be used properly, but I don't get indignant and pissy when someone doesn't use it properly....
"So I was listening to the Sunday in the Park with George soundtrack yesterday..."
"THE SOUNDTRACK? THEY MADE A MOVIE? I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MADE A MOVIE! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL".
Jesus, can anyone say something rational that goes against the BWW groupthink without getting shouted down by the usual suspects?

BobbyBubby, I'm sure you had a lot of fun writing that post, but I don't think you realized that the post you were responding to was being sarcastic. Qolbinau was obviously kidding. So you went off on an angry snark-rant for no real reason.
Hmm... well back to the original post, I tried listen to Wicked again recently (it came out when I was 11 and I was obsessed)... and honestly it just didn't do as much for me as it used to. I was scared I would get addicted again, but no. Now that I know better things it's just not the same. It takes more to impress me.

I Love wickeds score but it's not on my must see list and it's not an addicting score like some shows.

Do you think you win points by standing up against something on this board..?
Why does it matter to you. You're not the one under scrutiny.
Those who don't know might as well learn the proper word NOW, then later. You accomplish nothing by complaining about others complaining. Because now I'm complaining about you complaining about me complaining.
What does that accomplish, exactly

It matters to me because it's annoying and elitist. It's like WannaBeaFoster starting threads about Marcie Dodd's spelling errors. In the grand scheme of things (in the grand scheme of Broadway discussion, even) what does it really matter?
Because it's a pet peeve for MANY... myself included.
There's a difference between soundtrack and cast recording.
it's like Bobby said - it would be going onto a baseball message board and calling it "softball" or "ball" (which is also different) or wahtever!
there IS a difference and it's important to note the difference.

I know it's important to note. But you don't have to stuff it down the throat of anyone who makes a mistake.
I don't mean to start an argument with anyone, but I feel like I have to state my opinion.
Do you think you win points by standing up against something...?
I wonder if anyone ever said that to Rosa Parks.

Haha, thank you Schmerg. I'm not trying to win points, I just feel like I should stick up for the little guy (I know that sounds grandstanding of me).
