I walked out of Lieutenant of Inishmore

I didn't even make it to the intermission.
It seemed as if I had been there for an eternity, witnessing some of the stupidest and least interesting characters I have ever seen on a stage.
And I loved Pillowman last season.
Can someone who liked this please tell me why.

I can't tell you why I liked it because it would give away the ending. I can say that I wasn't so sure I liked it at intermission, but by the end I was sure that I enjoyed it very much. It's not as good as The Pillowman, but it's very good.

Good morning,

My husband and I were hesitant about seeing the show given the way it is described. We loved it. We thought the characters were great. In fact, I thought it was close to brilliant. For us, it was not about the blood but rather the characters.

Guess there is something for everyone. We also attended History Boys and walked out at Intermission. By the way, we were not the only folks to walk out that night. I do not care if History Boys is winning most of the awards so far. What matters is what we thought of it (since we paid over $100 per head) and what you thought.

Sorry you did not enjoy it. Maybe we would have enjoyed it more had we stayed for the second half but we thought the first half was very weak. Maybe the same for you if you had stayed for the second half.

I have 2 friends that walked out of Inishmore also. One is going back even though he has been told the ending. (Which he told me) Not sure if I want to see it though.

Besides the ending (which was utterly brilliant) I thought each character was so brilliant. ANd it was one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Actually, scratch that. It is the funniest show I have ever seen (SPamalot and Avenue Q are close). It is one of the only shows that I have ever cried in from laughter. I am sad you didn't like it, but oh well. Pick your poison.

I actually agree that it isn't that wonderful of a show. I went back and forth between being bored by the characters, sorry for the actors, and repulsed by the violence.

I LOVED Pillowman, but this show just doesn't hold a candle to it. I get the point of the show, but the effect it leaves on the audience is anything but subversive.

did u pay to see it? I can never understand anyone can leave during intermission if he pay the ticket by himself. If I spend my money on a show, I would stay till the end no matter how much I hate it. I will curse it, warn people don't go the next day, but I will stay till the end of the show.

You should be proud of yourself, OFB. That's quite an achievement. You distracted your fellow patrons, and probably the actors to what, make a point to the playwright? I'm sure it made a real splash and they're still talking about it. Or maybe the 15 minutes of your life that you couldn't give up in the name of respect to others was wasted anyway.

ofb, that is really too bad, maybe if you had an attention span you might have been able to get it. Then would have enjoyed a wonderful ending!

Inishmore is definitely not for everyone. But WOW, I was blown away. Such a clever show and I have never laughed so hard in a theater in my life. More people should check it out.

Inishmore is one of the best plays I've ever seen. I thought it was just as good as The Pillowman. I'm sorry you didn't like what you saw of it, but I think you should have given it more of a chance rather than walking out during the first act. It's a hilarious, clever, incredibly well-acted and well-written show.

I hate when people walk out. Give the show a chance. You may have liked it more had you heard the full story.

Comparing Inishmore & Pillowman is like comparing apples & oranges. Both were brilliant. Inishmore was a bloody (very) good comedy & Pillowman was more cerebral. Both had top notch casts

Re History Boys, sounds like Copenhagen . It seems to be the critics darling but to many it appears to be boring. Could the critics be wrong again ? Perish the thought

After Inishmore is over, it is fun watching the stagehands.

The Pillowman was fantastic! I think it deserved best play over Doubt, and I saw both. I felt it was better written.

Agree Pillowman was better than Doubt. Doubt was well acted but was, to me, a one trick pony

Pillowman made you think on many levels & was absolutely riveting

Inishmore is probably better than History Boys but the critics darling will probably win out again over the more deserving show

DOUBT is a play that requires the audience to think, and that's something that Mr. Roxy seems to be having great trouble with these days.

I read Doubt over the summer and thought he didn't do it and then I saw the play in December and thought he definately did do it. That's what I found most compelling about the show. right after I saw the show, I ran to Radio City and saw The Christmas Show and the whole time while Santa was singing I was going back and thinking about everything that I just saw.

When I saw the show, half the mezz cleared out by intermission also. I agree that parts of it were entertaining but other parts were unbearingly boring. It was so obvious the entire second act was written for the sole purpose of being outrageous and shocking and to me, it just seemed too desperate. I don't have a problem with blood and gore (HUGE horror film fan here) but this was just silly and unnecessary.

Hey Dolly, I can think quite clearly. Just because one likes one show over another does not denote a lack of brains.I guess wicked geek does not know how to think either since that party agrees with me.It does not take a brain surgeon to know you are an angry person who lashes out at people who you take an instant dislike to (without ever meeting them). You have the problem . By your own admission, most people do not like you. Gee whiz, I wonder why. Believe me, I lose no sleep over the fact you do not like me. I wear it as a badge of honor. If you do not like me, I must be doing something right.I liked Doubt but liked Pillowman better. This is not too difficult for you, is it Dolly? . By the way, my wife has 3 degrees & hopefully that meets with your approval re education. She agrees with me
