u def should see billy elliot. Especially before hayden leaves. She is fabulous but only in the show for year. In the heights is wonderful but I enjoy billy more seen billy six times only have seen in the heights once. Good luck on your auditions.
I wasn't specifically thinking about Haydn, but I was thinking that you should definitely see Billy Elliot while it has this magnificent cast. The show may be here for a long time, but a cast this great won't be.
Ugh - are you kidding me?! In The Heights, all the way.
Billy Elliot was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. The book is terrible, the show is trite - the only reason to see it is that the boys playing Billy are seriously phenomenal - breathtakingly so. I'd recommend people see it solely for them, but if it's a choice between an incredible show, with strong music, choreography, lyrics and book as well as performances, and Billy Elliot...easy choice.
BILLY ELLIOT is far, far superior in its technicalities and writing than IN THE HEIGHTS.
HEIGHTS is more fun and entertaining, ELLIOT is a bold, somewhat dark, but always brilliant musical.
I'd confidently cast a vote for BILLY ELLIOT if you're asking which is the better all around show.

In the Heights!
For all the reasons previously stated, but also because it needs your money more than Billy Elliot. In the Heights is an original musical that's doing new and different things; Billy Elliot, while I'm sure it's as good as everyone says, is an Elton John score based around a movie plot.
IN THE HEIGHTS is sweet, high energy and fun, but it's ultimately a very weak show. I saw it, enjoyed it but almost instantly forgot it. It'll tour well, so if you want to see it, you'll seen a version that won't be much different than the Broadway original.
Even though BILLY ELLIOT has a so-so score, the story and electrifying dancing and staging more than makes up for it. And when this tours, it will definitely lose quite a bit on the road. See it on Broadway.
In the Heights.
Have all you people who are saying "absolutely In the Heights" actually SEEN Billy Elliot? It boggles my mind that there's even a comparison of the two. I mean, In the Heights was really cool and I enjoyed it very much, but come on! This shouldn't even be a question.
And I wonder how many of the people who are saying ITH have actually seen both.
Have all you people who are saying "absolutely In the Heights" actually SEEN Billy Elliot?
I've seen both, and in my opinion, HEIGHTS is eons better than ELLIOT. Much more impressive choreography and score. Even the book for IN THE HEIGHTS was more moving than BILLY ELLIOT's.
Yes, seen both.
I think BE is a FAR superior show, MUCH more emotionally satisfying. The book is more refined and complete. I didn't think EITHER score, while fitting the needs, was memorable. I loved the choreography in both (the strongest aspect OF ITH IMO), but was totally enchanted by BE's.
That being said: you won't be sorry no matter WHICH show you choose....and you will probably be able to get BETTER seats for ITH.

Humm...Im a BE fanatic BUT if theres a chance you'll be able to see BE later see ITH, BE will be playing for a LONG time but I doubt ITH will. If you HAVE to pick only one for all time then of course see Billy, good luck getting good seats though, might be ok when your going to see it.

I wasn't a HUGE fan of either--they were both good shows, but neither had me wanting to come back really. I think I'd go see ITH again before seeing Billy Elliot again.
Flip a coin, perhaps? Either show is a good choice!

Billy Elliot....In The Heights is so OVERRATED.
In The Heights... Billy Elliot is so OVERRATED.
It totally depends on whether you want to see last year's best musical winner or this year's best musical winner.
Billy Elliot is a mediocre show with mediocre music and a rather unmoving and overstated plot. In The Heights is no masterpiece but it's definitely a little bit better. Overall, these two shows are about on the same level except I just don't like Elton John's Broadway music. Either way one of these shows is not far better than the other but I'd recommend In the Heights.
PLEASE don't choose Billy Elliot. I've seen them both, In The Heights is sooo superior. In every aspect.

I've scene both as well -and while Billy will end up being an ICONIC musical over the long haul, In the Heights (especially with Lin in the lead) is an art piece that as a serious HS students you will NOT WANT TO MISS -
Trust me - Trust me -
Billy Elliot will be around 3 years from now - ITH - maybe not even this summer - ??
In The Heights will definitely be around for the summer. It's doing pretty well and always reaches over 1 million on popular weeks. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.
