...the Tony Award winning performance for Best Actress in a Musical 2008!
The dress rehearsal for 'A Catered Affair' contains one of the best performances i've seen in years by an actress- Faith Prince the award is yours!
A brilliant new musical that is one of the freshest pieces i've had the pleasure of blubbing thru for a long time.
That's so great to hear.
Do you think it has a shot of winning BEST MUSICAL?
It crossed my mind a few times to be honest. Its so fresh and certainly will be nominated. I had only head Coney Island but there are 2 or 3 brilliant numbers in there including the title number!
Jez - faith Prince was amazing!
I will def be going again before i leave on Sat
We were given tickets at 7.30pm while making our way to see 'Cry Baby' -'Baby' can wait!
Hells Yeah!
I can't wait till April 2nd, when I see this!!
I just feel like, with Tony history, In The Heights is an inevitable win regardless of the quality of A Catered Affair.
Great performances from Harvey and Tom. Sorry, there were no Playbills tonight so i dont know the name of the actress playing the daughter, 'Jane'?
You'll know more than me! If its her she's wonderful!
I don't know how you could say that IN THE HEIGHTS has the Best Musical Tony in the bag. The race is very wide open at this point, with no clear frontrunner or favorite.
Musicals eligible for Best Musical:
A Catered Affair
Cry-Baby
In the Heights
The Little Mermaid
Passing Strange
Xanadu
Young Frankenstein
Despite the strengths of A CATERED AFFAIR, IN THE HEIGHTS, and PASSING STRANGE - it's slim pickings. There are 7 eligible musicals, with 4 slots. IN THE HEIGHTS and PASSING STRANGE are locks, with A CATERED AFFAIR presumably the third. THE LITTLE MERMAID will not be nominated, and things aren't looking good for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.
We'll see what the critical response to CRY-BABY will be (though I can't imagine it being great), but smart money goes on XANADU for being the 4th nominee.
Well, after all that, IN THE HEIGHTS does seem to have the edge - but in the bag? Not yet.
do you think it will be on tkts tomorrow night?? I really wanna goo
Munk, you're forgetting GLORY DAYS. If rumors are true, of course.
Glad to hear the good news about Faith Prince's performance.
Can you elaborate on Leslie Kritzer (the girl playing the daughter) and Matt Cavenaugh (her fiance)?

That must have been a pretty short show. Was it 90 minutes without intermission?
Glad to hear the show is great! Looking forward to seeing it!
"Was it 90 minutes without intermission?"
That's how it was in San Diego.
Anyone know the changes?

I couldn't agree with you more WickedBoy. Faith Prince is amazing, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer and Harvey are very good. Keeping in mind that this was invited dress, I would have to say WOW. It is a very emotionally moving and satisfying show. A friend of a friend offered me a ticket and I couldn't be happier I went.

I thought Prince was wonderful in San Diego, but I would wait until reviews come out for AFFAIR, GYPSY, and SOUTH PACIFIC before proclaiming the Tony race over. The critics, and Brantley especially, could write love letters to any one, or even all, the female stars of those shows....
That said, since everyone is assuming Lupone will take it, I think there will be a dark horse favorite that makes the race exciting - as always seems to happen when there is an early favorite...
Thanks a bunch, wickedboy, for sharing your thoughts!
I'm seeing this live and in-person on April 21, and as expected, I cannot wait!
Also, as an aside, I think that 'Best Leading Actress' will come down to Faith, Patti, and Jenna - just like I've been saying since the very beginning... Watch.

whatever you do, don't post dress rehearsal notes on ATC
you know i trust your opinion, wickedboy2 - except i didn't think rent remixed wasn't that horrible - so i'm very happy to hear the positive notes. now i can't wait to see it next week!
Limelight, I agree. Those three women have a huge chance of being nominated.
I can't wait to see this. Thanks for the review.
Wouldn't it be funny that Lupone would loose to Prince? Like we all thought that Raul was going to win and he lost out to David. We all think Patti will win and she may loose to Faith. Know one will know until all is announced and awarded to.

Lupone WILL lose to Prince.
A CATERED AFFAIR is the most beautiful show on Broadway in a very, very, very long time. I might even dare say that it is more chilling than The Light in The Piazza.
I loved every second of it when I saw it several times in San Diego.
Are LuPone and Prince tighly intertwined as of now? I guess I missed that; I suppose she can ring herself LOOSE.
The show now has a title number?
Lupone WILL lose to Prince.
- Didn't you also say CRY-BABY will be this seasons big hit. Or something along those lines?
People need to see Patti's new Broadway Rose before making such assumptions. It's a different animal from CC.

Nah, I never said it will be the big hit. I said I LOVED the show in La Jolla, which I did. Not so much on Broadway. But, that is what happens when they take a show that was great out of town and make it okay for Broadway.
If this show is the Grey Gardens of the season, Faith Prince is the Christine Ebersole.
Edit: Let me add that I HIGHLY doubt this show will win Best Musical. It does not appeal to wide enough of a demographic.
