Well, whatever they pull off, if it's not pre-recorded, it could be a "first" for X-Factor.... Since it's 2014, Year of Adele Dazeem.

Curious if she was on stage last night in NYC. I'm assuming she is in London today as she is also doing an interview on the 8th.
These dates were listed on her website.
DECEMBER 7 – THE X FACTOR (ITV UK & AXS TV USA)
DECEMBER 8 – THE ONE SHOW (BBC ONE UK)

^Unless everyone on Twitter mistook Jackie Burns for Menzel (it's happened to a few people before), Menzel was in IF/THEN yesterday.
But as for the "live" XF stage performance, uh...
BBC One interview can be done by satellite or something, right?
#28Idina Menzel on UK X Factor
Posted: 12/7/14 at 11:03amThe thing is if Michael Buble is the "surprise" guest tonight on the X factor. He has the duet with Menzel on Baby it's Cold Outside and he is also on tour in the UK at this moment. We'll see how it plays out in a few hours. :)

Posted: 12/7/14 at 11:04amThat's not how the One Show works tho. They don't really do interviews via satellite. The guest sits on the sofa the whole half hour and contributes to other items on the show beyond the their own interview. If she's on the One SHow she's in the UK.

^I see. If Jackie Burns ends up going on today with no prior notice, I feel bad for ticketbuyers (no notation on Ticketmaster).
If Menzel does call out for these things, I have to wonder--
1) Is IF/THEN close enough to recouping that they feel they can sacrifice a Sunday, or
2) Are Sunday shows usually pretty light anyway so they feel they won't lose too much to refunds anyway, and
3) Maybe these bookings were last minute, so they couldn't do a Ticketmaster notation...
It makes more sense to me to fly all the way to the UK for two things instead of just the one, though.
(Agh, and I...hate that "Baby" song, ugh. Wish they chose a different duet, but whatever.)

She's actually in the UK - someone just tweeted that she's out of the show today. Mystery solved!
Now, what will she sing tonight? I'd rather it not be a duet w/ Buble - he's still the bigger star and I don't want it to become all about him.
By the way, in the US, if you have the AXS TV channel, you can watch X-Factor tonight as well, just not live.

Posted: 12/7/14 at 12:57pmAh, well. I guess X Factor is just that much a bigger thing. I wondered if weekly gross will take a noticeable hit from missing today's show, but looking at the annual chart, this week always dips from last weekend anyway. Probably worth the risk for Menzel at least. Good for her for getting more exposure on the other side of the pond.

I'm not sure Menzel has ever had a "perfect" live-televised performance or interview, to be honest. It just doesn't seem like a natural medium for her at all.
I don't know why she ended up doing this, but I guess when you're invited (they pay the guests, right?), it would be an exposure opportunity for her future tour. May or may not have helped, though!

^Unless they feel she butchered a song. Well. I did find it odd that she added so many UK venues for her tour, but there are months out for people to buy tickets, so we'll see. Even in the theater scene across the pond, the only things she did there were Wicked and Chess in concert, right? I'd be surprised if she has a significant Wicked following there, but no idea.
I also think it's a big mistake to use Frozen as the major hook to get ticket-buyers, because Menzel in concert is, if she's being authentic, not kid-friendly, heh. Maybe that's another reason for such a performance (umm, that rapey song).

Posted: 12/7/14 at 4:11pmI can understand that someone might be disappointed that they missed Idina, but there's nothing disappointing about Jackie's performance. In fact, I think they should feel fortunate that they saw and heard one of Broadway's best....not every lead role has such an amazing standby.

It's interesting they didn't 'warn' audience members. I guess they (I'd assume rightly) thought that they'd lose less money this way.
Did they plug IF/THEN on X-factor?

@JBC2: I agree. I empathize greatly with Burns' situation, and even more so since she had that BWW interview describing how some people were rude to her face for not being Menzel. Wow. Well, on the plus side, I'm sure she's being paid handsomely.

Ticketmaster has carried an absence note for all her previous vacations/known absences, though, and those were usually at least a month in advance (I think?). Maybe this was cutting it close. I rather doubt they plugged IF/THEN since it's not like most people in the UK can go to NYC easily, but I didn't watch.

That's too bad. Hopefully that interview she's going to will be better.
Oh yes, and the tourists who traveled from other countries to see Menzel...I wonder if a Monday makeup would have been a better plan, but guess we'll never know. I feel like this entire situation is a lose-lose for everyone involved (except whatever "Fanzels" in the UK). An off performance isn't going to get new fans, and unhappy If/Then tourists back at home.

I thought it was actually really cute. Not professional, but typical Menzel. I didn't think she sounded bad at all, though. It looked like she was having fun for once.

I think part of the poor reception was that the song created a very different atmosphere to the rest of the show, which I don't necessarily think is a bad thing! There was also a bit of cynicism regarding Buble being the surprise guest, despite the fact that he appears on the X Factor every year. And there's the 'why didn't she sing Let it Go?!!1!' comments,
In my experience she does have a fairly big following here in the UK, but whether it's big enough to sell a decent number of seats in those venues, only time will tell I guess!

Hope you're right, NeverSoShy.
Ugh, I like the actual harmonies in that damn song, but I dislike the song itself so much I can't even bring myself to click the link.
I'll believe your take, promisespromises2; on the plus side, it's the "typical Menzel" that people can expect on her tour, I suppose.

"I did find it odd that she added so many UK venues for her tour"
She played just as many UK dates in 2012 pre-Frozen. All that's really changed are larger venues. She also sold out Royal Albert Hall in 2011.
I loved the performance - messy? Sure, a bit - but I doubt they rehearsed it more than once or twice during a soundcheck.

^Considering Menzel's current schedule, I have no doubt you're right about the rehearsal bit.
Good to know about the UK venues.

I'm not sure why there's a perception that the performance hasn't been well received. Other than the usual few detractors, the responses on twitter have been the typical positive comments about Idina.
I thought the performance was a lot of fun. It didn't necessarily allow her to show of the belt that people have come to expect, but it was nice.
