Alright. More positive thoughts. :)
I tried to sift through the early Twitter comments but it's just too much.

Digital Spy who usually represents views of the audience have been mixed on it. I think it was fine, I like idina's voice, I'm not a fan of Michael and think that she would have been better alone but it was nice to see her have fun.
Outside of her UK fan base she isn't particularly known very well which is probably why people are a bit hostile towards her.
For whatever reason Mel and Cheryl didn't give them a standing ovation which is usually accustomed to the guest performers I thought that was rather rude. She did a good job on the song but the reception was definitely an odd one.

I have no idea why people are saying negative things about this performance. It's a cute rendition of a playful holiday song. I think they both sound great. It's just a little side performance. Not supposed to be the huge standout. She sounds great. Very jazzy and free. She has been sounding great lately on television. The Country Christmas special, her rendition of Silent Night on the Morning Show, and this. All these random, sporadic performances in addition to doing 8 shows a week (with the very rare call out). I give her a lot of credit. Such a unique and interesting voice and style.

Posted: 12/8/14 at 12:01amI just watched it. Wow. I love Idina dearly and think her talent is immeasurable but that was rough. I really like this song on her record but she was in very weak voice and she messed up rather a lot of lyrics. The interaction with Buble was kinda cute but looked so brazenly unrehearsed that it somewhat took away from the charm. I'm sure she's exhausted from flying across the world between 8 shows a week and I applaud her ambition, but when this is the result, it sort of puts into question how worth it such a straining trip might be.

She literally forgot one line and her voice was great...

I must be watching a different video altogether. I was smiling from beginning to end. I too think she sounds fine. This is what she sounds like. I guess if you don't like it, you don't care for her, which is totally fine! But this is definitely not her in "bad voice" as many have said. It looks to me like they had one or two rehearsals and then were told "Ok, just have fun with it!" which is exactly what they did. People need to loosen up a little bit. I don't think this was ever intended to be anything other than what it turned out to be.

Quite the contrary! I love her voice and have seen If/Then several times because I am absolutely blown away by hearing her sing live. I've also attended a few of the promotional Xmas events she's been doing lately and thought she sounded incredible. I think she's sounded far better at those events than she did here, but clearly many others disagree so who cares what I think.

I thought Idina and Michael both sounded fine, it was just that the performance looked really under rehearsed which I imagine it was. I can't think of a worse idea performance wise than when you know you've got a tiny timescale to get over to the UK, do a couple of shows and get back to the US than to do a duet. At least if you sing on your own you can just stand there and sing rather than try to interact with someone else which just looks really awkward when there seems to be no plan. It felt forced and really awkward - they both looked uncomfortable because they didn't know what to do.
The Mel B and Cheryl not standing up for them is in most of the UK papers today.
It seems that Idina is also going to be on the Jonathan Ross show to air somewhere closer to Christmas, it's recording tonight. I imagine there's going to be a mad dash accross London involved because that's now two things she's filming tonight.
Oh and BBC are using Idina's cover of All I Want for Chrsitmas on one of their Christmas programming promos.

Her last uk dates were heavily comped
It's a very brave move to be doing arenas in the uk
And from talk I've heard in the office today (non twitter type of people) general view is not overly impressed. Certainly not enough to help sell tickets

Posted: 12/8/14 at 2:18pmAlthough it doesn't have a very big audience compared to the X Factor, she seems to be coming across well on The One Show (currently airing)! It doesn't look like she'll be singing though.

I thought Idina's performance on the X Factor was wonderful! A little under rehearsed, but fun and giggly! Her and Michael put on a show, with some teasing and laughter. I thought Cheryl and Mel B - the female judges - were disgraceful. I was shocked when they did not get on their feet!
I also thought she came across very well on The One Show shown by the BBC. Although it was very frozen centric. Most of the question were around the role of Elsa and the impact of the movie. Her Christmas album was plugged only briefly, with If/Then only being mentioned (but not by name) during a brief period around discussion on recording of the album and Idina said she recorded while doing 8 shows a week. Her World Tour was plugged breifly at the end of the show.
If I was Idina I would seriously be questioning the PR decisions made around her visit to the UK, especially considering she had to miss a Sunday show for If/Then. Two majpr opportunities were missed to plug 'her' here in the UK. As sweet as the X Factor performance was if she had sung a 'belt' song from the Xmas album alot more people would have noticed and on The One Showshe should have insisted the focus should have been nn her new Album and World Tour.
Lets hope her pre-recorded visit to the Jonathan Ross which will air on 20th December will give her that extra exposure!

To be honest, the press that came out of the X Factor because Mel B & Cheryl didn't stand up probably went a lot further than a belty performance could have gotten her. Buble was there and it's one of the only chances they'll ever have to sing that song together. It would have been nice if The One Show didn't spend half an hour talking about Frozen, but getting people to associate her face and name with her voice in Frozen is exactly what she needs to keep snowballing her fame (no pun intended).
I don't think missing an If/Then performance hurt her any, whereas 3 UK appearances (1 yet to be aired) would help her tremendously in the UK. She's allowed vacation days, after all - what she does on her vacation is up to her.

I've seen Menzel a few times live in concert, twice in Wicked (US/London) and years back in Rent. There's one common thread I've noticed in ALL of her performances: She doesn't conserve her voice, it gets tired rather quickly and by the end of the show, you can hear it.
I clearly remember the last concert of hers I saw, she was resorting to major scooping to hit the notes in 'Don't Rain on my Parade.' For the fan-girls, they ate it up, but to those who have heard much better live versions (paging Linda Eder), it was painful.
All of that being said, I'm glad she's finding this success and that it gives a 'theatre person' security and name recognition well outside of the stage door.

A set list can be designed to alleviate that sort of thing, but unfortunately concerts of this nature are going to pull from her most famous pieces, which are all belted. That might be part of the reason why she chats.
At least the music of IF/THEN isn't as pyrotechnic as Wicked, allowing better pacing and such.

man, that Buble, Menzel video was horrible! Loved Buble, hated her! Do not know what the attraction is, if sc
he isn't screaming at you, she kind of sucks
ETA: maybe it is that I find this holiday date rape song offensive.

It's the song that wigs me out. It'll be a great day when a 1940s rape culture song is no longer a Christmas "classic." Having 2 kids in their music video didn't much remove the creep factor for me when the little boy is singing/mouthing "your lips look delicious" (what?).
In any case, it's no surprise that the strain of international travel in a disgusting petri dish plane would do Menzel in, but a mixed reception appearance and now missing 3 shows is pushing the PR effort into a net negative, IMO, which is unfortunate. At least she's now missing weekdays and not the weekend.

It cracks me up when people say she sucks, because she really doesn't. From a singer and musician's standpoint, she's extremely talented and has a killer voice. I never understood the "screaming" argument made against her, either.
I've been a fan since before Wicked and have always found her voice to be very powerful; the timbre of her voice has always given me chills, especially when she's in the Bb5 to Eb5 range.

Posted: 12/11/14 at 10:28pmI am an Idina fan and think she is immensely talented. I had the privilege of seeing Jackie perform at the Wednesday matinee (Dec 10) because Idina was out. I do think Idina is spreading herself really thin..flying to London, this week she is appearing on a couple of talk shows..getting ready for the tour..I think it is so much and wonder if she is as committed to If/Then. She is everywhere these days..I am happy for success and she is having a heck of a year...well deserved! Just hope her "people" know what they are doing.
