#1If Beyonce Were on Broadway...

Beyonce (Knowles, just in case anyone needs clarification) has stated numerous times that she'd like to win a Tony, an Oscar, and a Grammy. She, of course, has one of those wrapped up, and she was atleast considered (well, possibly) for an Oscar. But, here's my question:

If Beyonce were to come to Broadway, what do you think she's be starring in?

I guess we'll be talking revivals here or possibly films/ books turned musicals.

Have a go! It shall be fun...

I'm thinking a revival of JAMAICA, which starred the incomparable Lena Horne in its original run in the late 1950s.

Aida? Once on this Island?

Definitely ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, although Ti Moune (which is the part she'd most likely fill) is a featured role, and she'd definitely want to be the star. But, I guess, Ti Moune could be tweaked a tad and be made the leading role. LaChanze was in the features actress category at the Tonys for her performance.

I thought Ti Moune WAS the lead of Once on this Island. Could someone explain that to me?

I guess she could be classified as the lead, but I just know that LaChanze was nominated as a featured actress. Maybe that was just because of "below the title" politics.

A revival of 1962's NO STRINGS? Which of course starred the delicious Diahann Carroll.

Once on this Island is a big ensemble piece, but Ti Moune is the overall lead. The role could easily be made larger if needed.

Yeah. I knew that Ti Moune is the lead so why was LaChanze nominated for Best Featured Actress. Did she share the same amount of time onstage as her fellow actors?

I had an idea.

How about GYPSY with Tonya Pinkins or Jennifer Holliday as Mama Rose and Beyonce as Louise.

It would be INSPIRED.

I think Beyonce would be great on Broadway.

I know everyone is bound to say they hope she never comes to Broadway and blah blah blah but her performance in DREAMGIRLS was quite good (nothing masterful by any means, but pretty good) and my biggest complaint about it was that it was too over-the-top at times and it was a bit like she was performing for the last row of the mezzanine of a Broadway theater; so maybe she's a better suited actress to perform on stage. I hope we'll at least get to see her do something on Broadway soon. Give the girl a chance.

apparently mr.scribble is on crack.

I would assume she was nominated for featured actress for a few reasons. One being that she was under the title and the producers did not petition to change the ruling; and two, mattbrain you are basically correct. It's kind of like Sutton in Drowsy, she is obliviously featured in a ensemble show, but they pushed her for leading.

Beyonce could not handle 8 shows a week with her weak voice.

I'm with Bobby ! I LOVE her and I'd gladly pay to see her on a show, but her voice is probably the weakest African American voice I've ever heard ! She can't handle a very vocally-demanding role !

Keep her away from any comedy roles, please! I say she should play Daisy May in a Lil' Abner revival!

...Anyone?

Weak voice? Youtube her concert videos. She has pipes, there is no way of disproving that. She's an incredible singer, but an actress she is not.

I think Beyonce would be a fun Belle or Maureen. I couldn't see her at all as Mimi. But geez...yeah, I agree--no comedy for Miss Knowles. She's about as funny as a kitten with its tail under a rocking chair. Not funny at all.

Rent, she is great in her songs, because they are especially written for her voice and really low ! I don't know if it's online, but see the Jennifer Hudson/Beyonce duet of Listen on last year's Oscars and you'll see what I mean ! The comparison is devastating for B., I almost felt embarassed for her ! Of course, that's only my opinion and as I said I love her ! I also adore Madonna to death, but I wouldn't argue if someone said that she is not the best singer ! Oh No!
